Had my Hyundai nearly 5 years (2005 model) bought with 25,000 miles now showing 60,000 a good workhorse, had a new alternator about a month ago genuine Hyundai one was £518 so went for an exchange at £180.Apart from that just regular service items. Don't think you can go far wrong with them.
Not sure little bro would agree, the amount of hassle his Hyundai attempt at a 4x4 has caused him.  Though we're getting there...

Trouble is, its a Santa Fe, and UK support for them is dire.

Yes have heard about problems with the Santa Fe before guess I've just been lucky with mine, probably keep it another 3 years till I fully retire might consider a Jeep or Shogun next.
Oh Lordy me, I think the sea air is going to your head.

Always liked the Shogun since they first came out very difficult to find a secondhand one with sensible mileage though, looked at a few before I bought the Hyundai.

Frequently get them as hire cars on hols.  I accept hire cars get a hard life so I'll forgive reliability issues, but just don't live up to the promises.  If they ever wanted to be a serious competitor to the lives of BMW's X5 or JLR's Range Rover in the luxury, capable 4x4 stakes, they have a lot of work to do.

I've noticed when people start discussing 4x4's-which admittedly other than their names I know didley squat about-no one ever seems to mention the Isuzu Trooper so I guess there's a reason for this?

My 4x4 gets quite a hard life with dogs caravan & trailers muddy boots etc. So don't want anything too plush .

Depends what you want from it :y, its not in the luxury league like mention RR or X5.

Probably more a competitor to Discovery and similar, which is a hard nut to crack, due to the Disco's capabilities.

No, it became the Vauxhall/Opel Monterey in the 90's
Isuzu only make pickups and lorries today.

Neither of which can be taken seriously...

That engine would struggle with a slushbox. Not exactly a rocket in manual form. But it's not meant to be, it's meant to be an economical runabout.
