Just been looking at insuring a 1.8  '05 mondeo  . . :o :o  £200 more than the 2.6 omega :o :o

So then put details in for the omega as a comparison  . . .that is £200 more than I paid in September  as well  :o :o

5 star policy full comp with Co-Op for the omega was £216 in September

Now £418  . . .  what causes an across the board increase like that FFS ?
I  insured my 2.2dth on the 1st March with hastings & £286. no voluntary access £100 compulsory & every box is ticked for cover . legal , recovery etc . I always shop about but been with them 3yrs now , but I never accept their hiked up renewal quotes. they wasn't the cheapest tho with all the boxes ticked & no extras to pay for , they were

As I posted in an earlier thread: 1.4 astra estate and 1.5 diesel captur, 15000 miles and 12000 respectively. £470 for both, fully comp with LV. Not bad, I think.

After reading about the insurance hike I went on line and was pleased to note my quote has dropped, ok still roughly double the cars value but it's better than £700 I was quoted because I have 5 years experience in this type of car according to the log book.
The fact I've been restoring it since 2008-2009 and have been driving for 18 odd years isn't taken into account.
Neather is the fact it could be insured and live in a garage as a second car for 12 months.
It seems to me that if you or I tryed ramping prices up it's fraud, if an insurance company does it it's ok

There is a steady year on year increase, for a reason.
The government will soon be making people pay, for the emergency services to attend most incident's, therefore the insurance industry have seen it coming. We haven't. You have been warned.

What does chief conspiracy member rods2 think.

I know the government have changed the rules for long term disability insurance payouts, due to low interest rates, which is adding circa £100 to motor policy premiums. In the UK underwriters make virtually no money on motor insurance. Where insurance brokers in the past used to be prepared to make no margin or a small loss on the first years premium knowing that customer loyalty for a few years would give an overall profit, this is no longer the case as people use comparison websites every year and buy the cheapest. The removal of these subsidies is another reason prices have gone up.

I am paying a lot more as 3 cars insured but 5 drivers on 2 of them for use by family members. About £1100 - has gone up by £150 or so.

I have held a full licence for 47 years now, but it seems it is your age, not length of driving experience, that affects the premium.  An 18 year old is obviously charged a very high premium for insuring a car like mine, but it is my age that reduces the cost, not the 47 years, 1 million miles experience. A point I made to my insurance company recently after my little crunch, and the fact the insurance industry have made a lot of money out of me; how about a little bit of leeway now?  They replied with raising my cars value by £500 and agreeing to paying me for the cost of the repair. ;)
