Brother had a later V12 XJS-super car!

I bought a 3500SD1 manual-not a patch performance wise compared to my previous P6 3500S.

Cousin bought a Belgium built Allegro 1750HLS in about 1981-it was two years old. Within a year the engine mounting bolts were pulling through the very rusty chassis.

They're very disappointing; cramped, uncomfortable, expensive and slow, which is just as well considering that the brakes are unbelievably poor.
The first time I ended upside down in a field was courtesy of an Allegro. And some very bad driving by a friend

The second time I ran out of (very slippery) road before getting the car back under control. It wasn't even very fast, just a very deep ditch

I'd still buy the XJS, though. Loved them as a kid, still love them now.. difficulty is finding one that isn't comprised mostly of bodges and filler to hide the rust holes!

I disliked the XJS in period as the svelte and sexy E-Type was a hard act to follow. I would like one now though and prices have been rising for some time.

Still I still reckon the XJ40 fastback was a work of genius. Would love one of those if we can find a way to stop the fuel tank smouldering.

  To be fair to it, it wasn't smouldering until someone (whose initials might be KW) carved their initials into the rear wing with a plasma cutter 

But all the rust on that car is what would put me off buying even an "immaculate" XJS these days.. I mean, I am getting handier with a welder but not that handy!

Wolseley Saloon , i remember being took out in one and shown how to handbrake turn  Still like the P6 but think i would take the 2.2 rather than V8 as only driving sedately these days
