Car prices ....
« on: 28 March 2017, 15:55:22 »

I've just read a review of the new Grand Insignia, top of the range 2.0 petrol (250 bhp) Elite, 4x4, 8 speed auto, Nav. Price - about £28k.

That's significantly LESS than the Omega Elite price at launch, in 1994, some 23 years ago ...

Interesting, very interesting.......

Vauxhall do appear to have very keen prices at the moment, I'm looking at Zafira Touers. Around £10k gets me say 1.4T Elite on around 63 plate with sub 20k miles, so very good value.

Apply same to Ford, same £10k only gets me 60/61 plate examples, with around 50/60k on the clock.

IIRC, vauxhall also have some bonkers warranty deal on at the moment that lasts your lifetime, or 100k, whichever comes first.

Given the age of the average OOFer, I have my suspicions as to what will come first :P

And some time ago it seems!  :o

Clearly I'm not paying enough attention to VX's current offerings.

I think their offerings are not as good as others.....

Mondeo is better looking, nicer driver and better interior than Insignia.
Zafira Tourer is significantly cheaper than S-Max (S/H), but lacks true middle ISO Fix/Full size seat and looks dull compared to S-Max in Sport trim.

... but they are very cheap. Insignia & Zaf's very well priced especially second hand. Forcing me to look over some of the bits I don't like about them.  :-\

Possibly something to do with the new tax rates having a purchase price element :-\

It was possible to pay the best part of £20k for a Cavalier at one point!

True but you've bought a Passat diesel, so have clearly given up...

I love it, out of everything I saw/looked at/test drove it ticked all my boxes for toys I wanted, economy, practicality, cost and age. So given up? Nope.

The 3.2 Elite was around £32000 in 2003. I doubt anyone paid it though.

Heavy discounts, I imagine. :y

My 3.2 Elite list price was £32000 in 2001. I bought it in 2002 at 1 year old for £16500. It also had full Irmscher so presume that would have been extra cost on top of £32000. It was an ex Vauxhall Management car - I always thought Irmscher was factory fitted but some say on here that it never was??

Agreed, but as the majority went to company car drivers - the driver would be paying a BIK tax on the list price .....

Prices did fall soon after though

Quietly dropped, probably. Not something they would wish to shout about.

I once bought a Vectra 2.5 CDX Full leather... Auto .... Around 2000 yr iirc .... about £23k new ... 9 months and 6k miles on it £12k  :y ex Vx management....
Had a race once with Subaru Impreza (on a private race track of course!) .... The Vx held its own and was only when the vx locked the torque converter up at 125mph ... that the Subaru started to gain distance on me.....Still not bad for not a sports car with an auto box  :y
Annoying point of the autobox I remember was it used to put the g/b in to N when sitting still....So go for for a quick get away and the g/b used to thump into 1st ......

Properly test drive one first.  That little 1.4 turbo is a great little engine, but a Battlebus is big, heavy and as aerodynamic as a brick.

Not driven that combo before, but would imagine you might have to wring its neck a bit  :-\.  In a (lighter, more aerodynamic) Astra, it does seem to pull well from 2000rpm (relatively speaking)
