X30XE no oil pressure?
« on: 03 April 2017, 19:20:00 »

What causes this on these engines? The overpressure valve? How prone are the oil pumps for failure on these? Can the "filter" or whatever you call it inside the oil pan clog up?
Can the pump be fixed or easily diagnosed if it is actually broken or not without just swapping in another one? How hard is the pump to remove? Any how-tos?

Don't think Ive heard of an oil pump going wrong on a V6. Sump strainer is well known for slowly clogging up with debris over time though, so may be a good place to start.

My first 2.6 suffered with oil starvation problems a few months into ownership which probably meant that I should have removed the sump to at least check the pick up. but I only got as far as to change the oil etc twice but it obviously never helped at all and the engine finally died less than six months after I bought it.

I guess I will just check/clean the sump and the over pressure valve, start it again and still hear the rattle and just go get another engine for it.

Oil sump was clean as ever...

Can the pressure relief valve really cause that even oil filter doesnt get filled with oil? Or is it really "never happens" broken oil pump? The oil pan was free of any  metals atleast so maybe there is still hope if/when I find the oil preasure.

The valve seems to move just fine when I press on it so I think that rules it out?

What do you mean? The sump is on the bottom end of the pickup right? Is there something else I need to check about it?
Can there be a leak in the pickup that it only sucks air to the oil pump or something?

What I mean is I didn't take the pickup off, only inspected the sump and checked that it wasn't clogged under the car.

So you checked the mesh in the end of the pickup pipe?

Yes and took the pickup pipe off now and nothing wrong that the eye can see, seal is fine on the top and stuff and it's all clean inside.

How hard is the oil pump to take off?

Anyone got any info on how the oil pump comes off?

I removed the crank gear, all the bolts from the front of the engine, oil pan, 5 bolts inside the oil pan that looked like they might attach to it and the oil sump but it doesn't seem to budge? Anything I'm missing?

Well yeah that was kinda obvious cause it's like the first thing you need to do really.

But anyway pump is off now, the gears seem fine, there is a small play on the bigger gear sideways, maybe like 0.5mm but can measure it better tomorrow with feeler gauge...
Only thing that comes to mind now is that there is something blocking the oil path to the filter? The oil goes straight from the pump to the filter first right?

There was lots of sealant on the parts gushing out from previous install so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some gunk in the passage...
