I was with the RAC years ago and called them out twice. The first I waited for 3 hours on a busy twisty near Henley, despite telling them I was stranded in a dangerous place.  The second time I broke down in Bristol and they said they couldn't get anyone to me for 5 hours!  :o  I abandoned the car, walked home and cancelled my membership!  ::)

Contrast that with Rescuemycar.com who have always had someone there within the hour and have got me home when necessary without any quibbles.  :y

Another endorsement of "Green Flag" here, they have been excellent on the few occasions we've had to use them  :)

Just got a quote from them  £120 INCLUDING European cover ! Efiinn hell I could pay that just for the Euro cover. Does not cover SWMBO however. Not done it yet, but that is VERY tempting  :y I just need to check that I did that correctly.

You could take the same cover out for SWMHO & it would still be cheaper than AA's first quote  :y

I prefer the AA to RAC, my dad always used the AA and I've always liked the way they do things

I flick between big providers every time I can't negotiate significantly below their new customer promotional price.  For example, RAC wanted a stupid £146 this year, new customer price £129 (2 members, with national recovery, member policy), I told them less than £80, or I'm off.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they won't. But I have no loyalty.

I think I have a freebie AA with something, but its car only, with relay, so not that much use to me.

We have (both cars, both drivers) roadside breakdown-recovery, onward travel, hotel if necessary, home start and European cover, all for £10.50 a month, so £126 pa with Barclays travel pack. Also includes travel insurance.
Sounds very good but, of course, we won't need it.

I have the same cover as Stemo through my bank account, although in total I've been with the AA since 1984.Not needed them that much-about 3 or 4 times from memory-but they've always been prompt.I wouldn't bother them with the home start bit as if it's home I can leave it until I fix it.

Quite. I used the AA A LOT as an Omega driver who doesn't do own maintenance but does do a lot of miles. Come to think of it, that's probably why the quoted cover is so high, we actually do call them out, me and Mrs.

If you use your breakdown service a lot then Covermybreakdown is no good for you, as you'll end up shelling out loads on excess fees.  ;)

Please note past tense "used". I no longer have an Omega  ::)

I really am not knocking them, I had four, and love them. But they need a lot of looking after which I can not do.

Been with RAC with 4 people any car return to home (or any UK destination, with no extras like home start. The renewal was £183, I negotiated back down to £85. This game has been going on every year since 2007. (although I added our 2 kids back in about 2011)
