Best BBQ Gas Source
« on: 06 April 2017, 10:18:45 »

Any good tips for best place on big gas canisters for BBQ's?

MrsT gave me a Weber BBQ which I built last year, just in time for winter.  ::)  ;D

Looking at the weather, I should spark it up this weekend, so looking for some gas  8)

Was thinking B&Q  :-\

B&Q are probably not the best!
Might I suggest that you Google local wholesale stockists? I use one near me, at Halstead, Essex, who collect the empty cylinder when they deliver the full one, all included in the reasonable price and are happy to supply just one cylinder.

Yes, sorry - I looked closer at their branches and they aren't near you, but there are other wholesalers probably on your doorstep who offer a similar deal. Good luck and don't pay too much!  8)

I believe TB knows a thing or two about this. His BBQ gas can get a much better fire going than any other you've ever heard of.  :y

Barbecue? Gas? Something not quite right, there. Mine comes in sacks.:-\

Anyway... Last gas cylinder I got was from the DIY shop on Fleet high street. Worth the trek over there just to see the place. Proper Arkwright's store manned by blokes in brown coats, where you can buy anything you need. IIRC, a 15kg Calor butane was about £32.

W C Baker & Son? (According to quick Google) - I'll check it out  :y

Yes stuff that comes in a bag would give better flavour, but having Little MissT to deal with, just being able to spark it on demand is much preferred!

Yep, if you park in the car park immediately behind the shop they'll take it out the back gate and put in the boot for you. :y

TBH, there are probably closer places and cheaper places to get it, but I quite like supporting them for the times when I want to buy a tap washer for 28p (instead of a pack of 5, none of which are the right size, from B&Q for £3.49).

I fill my own at 64.0p a litre, so a 6kg bottle costs me just £7.68 and not the rip off £21.00 that calor want ..   :(

A closer place to you is Kings in Sandhurst. Again an old school hardware store.

Dont forget to factor in buying the bottle and regulator as well, if you don't already have one.....most prices quoted are for a refill.
I would go propane over butane.....propane burns with a hotter flame  :y
