What is the cheapest way of getting an internet connection on my laptop away from home. :-[

I don’t want to be sitting outside a MacDonald’s etc, I want to connect from my Caravan.

I believe there are hand held devices, I don’t want this, I want to be able to use the laptop.

There is a signal within the main complex but this is too far from my caravan so was wondering;

What sort of deals through mobile, I am on a bacic annual contract with 02?
I have heard you can get a plug in from Orange?
I have heard that there are boosters that I can use to increase the range of the laptop so that I could get a signal from the complex.

What is the best way to get online, please provide any help in easy to understand language, nothing to technical.   ::)

Snap....   :y

Now that I find myself having joined the ranks and become a weekend Pikey (albeit the touring 'van is on a seasonal pitch for this year) I would also like to investigate such a thing.  She is happy that I am prised away from the PC when along at the 'van but I am getting withdrawal symptoms!!     ;D

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Gotchaaaa!!!!!  :y
Never been against tin tents, really.  Just circumstances of late kinda forced our hand.

Getting hacked off at the continued lack of t'internet though!!   ;D

Quite a few sites actually have WiFi facilities. However, be sure to pack the Vaseline so it doesn't hurt too much when they bend you over the end dinette table to try to extract the exorbitant fees they are fond of charging.   :o

Nope, not at the site we are using....  Mobile coverage is 'intermittant' at best and there is no wifi on site whatsoever.  Nearest Micky D's is over 25 miles away .....

OK Guys, a bit of an update on the mobile broadband thing.

I've just bought a PAYG mobile broadband 'dongle' from the '3' shop in Truro. It cost £50 and I got a 'free' sim card with £10 worth of credit which, once activated and converted to data useage, gives me 1 GB of data over a 30 day period. Note, if I don't use it I lose it!!

Currently sitting here in the caravan doing a bit of tinternet surfing and the speeds certainly seem acceptable.

So, total outlay £60 but the site wanted £20 per week to hook upto their poor wireless signal so the next time I use it I will be 'in credit'.

Hope this is useful to someone.  :)

Mike,

If getting a PAYG USB dongle modem, it needs to be topped up with credit, same as a phone.  There is a bit of a sneaky in the 3 T&C's that if you want the topup to be used for the 1Gb/30 days data access, the £10 (or whatever it is) topup needs to be "converted" to a data only topup (they call it the Boradband Lite Add-On).  If not, it MAY be used as a standard PAYG topup which munches your credit at £1/Mb..this means that you get 100 times less internet.
You do it via the internet, or phone.  Info is on their website - look for Jargon Buster, then read "Add-Ons"..

If you're on your home wireless, it'll make no difference.  It will only connect to the 3 internet if you have the dongle plugged in...

OK Thanks, think I have the idea, just looked on http://www.three.co.uk/personal/products_services_/mobile_broadband_/payg.omp and it talks about that.
Is car phone wharehouse the best place or should I talk to 02 first as I have an 02 phone on annual renewable contract.
