Speed awareness courses .....
« on: 20 May 2017, 08:57:28 »

Say, for example you transgressed in Scotland - would you have to go back there for a course, or can you take locally to you?

Cheers

Oh dear :-X ::)

I think you have to do it in the region issuing the NIP, but I could be wrong. Does this mean you may be needing another trip up north?

When I did one  ::)  (34 in a 30 limit  >:(  )  I could choose where to go. This was a few years ago, but at that time you could do it anywhere as long as you did it with an organisation that was recognised.

you can chose where to do the course.

some people avoid the local one as they know too many people.

If you live in a rural area then the nearest place is miles away anyway, so this is non applicable.  ;D

How do I know this?  ::)  :-[

I did mine in Newcastle with a Scottish taxi driver from Fife who'd be caught in Northumberland , and he had to come all that way to do his course , he wasn't a happy bunny !

I have to say that I actually found it quite interesting and almost worthwhile, but yes a bit tedious at times.

You need to put behind you the "I don't need this 'cos I know it all, and anyway I was only 3mph over the limit". Remember that often the person running the course has the ability to state that you were not cooperative or did not pay appropriate attention, in which case back to the fine and 3 points. So attend, be a good boy, look interested, say the right things, and listen. You may actually learn something (Ah, but we already know it all).

The other "attendees" will be interesting. On mine were a several taxi drivers, some young sales guys, me, and various others.

SWMB Picked up a Driver Awareness Course (not quite same but v. Similar) courtesy of Staffordshire rozzers after an at-fault accident, she was able to do it in either Leicestershire or Nottinghamshire (we lived on the border) so I think you'll be able to do it where you want.

Me? I've not been caught yet (in the UK  :-X). It's just a matter of time.

on mine someone I knew slightly before, told me he was caught at 33mph and 34mph on consecutive days, he went to court with the second one, and argued "who hasnt done 34 in a 30 limit, its inside the plus 10% etc"

the magistrates doubled his fine.

Quite right!

To waste the beak's time (and consequently our tax money) with the defence "I only broke the law a bit", a bigger fine is justly deserved!  ;D
