Windows update
« on: 09 July 2017, 20:15:31 »

Just had some kind of notification that I need to update my privacy settings before windows creators can do an update. When the computer was first set up and for installation of windows 10 my granddaughter did all the necessary stuff, she's not available for the next couple of weeks,so if I try this privacy settings bit is there anything I can get wrong that'll lose everything that's on the computer or cause me other problems?

Not really, but before doing the actual update of the OS, its prudent to have a backup of all your data.

TBH, its always prudent to have a backup of anything important at any time.

Sounds a bit suss to me are you sure it's an official MS update.I've done loads of installs and updates and have never been asked to change privacy settings.

It`s a lovely update which I did on my laptop at work on Saturday which resulted in very sluggish performance followed by another large update yesterday and now I have to choose which apps to open files all over again as all default apps seem to have changed.

I've found creators update to be better than anniversary edition. Both in speed and stability

I`ts better now, can`t say if it`s any faster or not but it took a second large update on Sunday to restore things as on Saturday it was sluggish as hell.

The only issue I have is having to set the default app for programs as it seems to have `forgotten` which apps I was using previously  :-\

After applying any large update (the creators update can be considered a service pack almost), you should always immediately get Windows Update to check for updates.

You should get the big update to creators. Another reasonably sized cumulative (as you get every month). This are generally both exclusive. Beyond that, depends what else you use that's patched by Windows Update - so Defender updates, Office updates etc will all come after that.

Patches generally released 2nd Tuesday of month, so we're in that period when you will get another as well.

Shortly after I'd done the accept/ok thing I got an update[one of the regular ones I think]and then within a couple of minutes of that one being done I got another update of much shorter duration,so I don't know what that was all about[the second one I mean].
