Window tinting
« on: 11 July 2017, 09:14:49 »

We have skylights in kitchen & bathroom both facing south & recent hot weather is unbearable for swmbo, so wondered if anyone has tried tinting or heat reflective film that goes on wet, been told it is mirror like at dusk & she is happy with that so if anyone has any tips or advice on if they work or not.

I did all the south facing windows in my last house - they do work, a little.. definitely helped in the bedroom with it's floor to ceiling 7' wide window, but don't expect it to suddenly be 20ºC in the house, there is still a considerable sun loading.

Great for privacy during the day, though, as you can only see in if it is brighter inside than out.

If you think skylights are bad, you want to try my lads bedroom on the top floor. There is virtually no space between the slates on the roof and the ceiling in his room. If you put you hand on the plaster it is firkin hot.

Foil-clad insulation board against the plaster, STEMO, and paper over it? Then it will be  8)er!

Can you still get (and be allowed to use) the stuff we used to paint on our factory skylights? :-\
