Acid attacks

Words fail me.

Hopefully the victim will receive the eyes from the perpetrator.

Shocking. People permanently disfigured for the sake of a moped or mobile phone. What kind of callous, sick bastards would carry out an attack like this? There are parts of London where it's just not safe to be out after dark any more.
They've apparently arrested one person for this. If it turns out they've got the right person, it will be interesting to see what length of sentence he gets. Anything less than 30 years would be a travesty.

Apparently, attacks like this have increased a lot in London over the past year, although not usually in this context. Who needs a gun or a knife to carry out a robbery, even in a jewellers, etc., when all you need is a glass container with water in it? I certainly wouldn't take a chance on it no being the real thing.

Funny thing is I never remembered being able to buy acid in the Uk apart from some batteries which came with a mix ready to fill. When we got to Spain acid is cheap and freely available in 1 or 5 litre containers and is used liberally (by women) to clean homes. Men use it to reduce the PH level in swimming pools.

A sad and depressing sign of the times now. An imported crime I heard them call it .
My wife and I were reminiscing only last night of the great times we used to have going down to the Station bar on Latimer Rd (AKA Bob's good time blues bar now sadly gone .....) in the shadow of Grenfell Tower. She was born in Bletchington St before the tower was built ,and we used to go down there at least a couple of times a month. After the bar emptied we'd get some chips from the Fish and Chip shop on Ladbroke Grove cross and enjoy a stroll around the area where she grew up.
This was only twenty years ago , f**k me , I wouldn't even drive through that area now in an armoured van.
We'd often park the car at Jack Straw's Castle in Hampstead and get the tube up the west end and after returning to Hampstead tube station stroll up the hill back to the car with only common sense for security . The nocturnal gay boys on the fringes of the Heath being the only group to avoid .
Twenty years to turn it all from a safe(ish ) area into a cess pool of multic*nturism...

It's way past the time where we went back to the punishment fitting the crime , bastards .

Shoot them. And the parents, siblings and offspring. Scum breeds scum.  Clear them out completely.  And do so publically as a deterrent.

Then line up all the do-gooders who grumble, they're next.

Have you seen the price of decent bullets these days ? One very large tank of a suitable acid and chuck the bastids in. Could get rid of thousands of scumbags to one tankful, so very cost effective.  :y
When I was young, I was far from innocent and well behaved. I did things I shouldn't, some of which I'm ashamed of to this day, but throwing acid in innocent peoples faces. nah, no excuse for it. Society needs rid of them.

Scum of society seems to be contantly working to reach new lows of depravity. >:( >:( >:(

Unfortunately, where there are legitimate uses for strong acid like cleaning drains, there are now petitions and calls for it to be only available to licensed people, therefore stopping DIY use. I suspect and hope that this will then be treated like unlicensed firearms with a minimum 5-year sentence.

Moped theft and use in crime has escalated since the police decided for 'rider safety' reasons not to pursue them in chases. Personally, I think the public's protection from these evil oiks should take priority. If they don't stop shoot them. :y :y :y

Knee jerk reaction ... petitions to make acid available to licensed people.

As i said earlier it is freely available in 5 litre containers here for about £3. Never heard of acid attacks here.

Problem is the person not the product.

Indeed. Where will this end if we take the route that it's the product at fault?

What about bleach? Or petrol? Are we going to ban everything that can potentially be used as a weapon by a thug?

An example needs to be set in sentencing these bottom feeders so others think twice about following in their steps.

Theboy's proposed sentencing regime is one possibility. :y

Brick and patio cleaners plus acidic alloy wheel cleaners, all freely available  :y

Do we need new laws and controls on acidic products?  Probably not IMO, but the courts need to hand down some stiff sentences to the perpretrators of these nasty attacks. There are a range of offences GBH, Wounding with intent etc that cover these type of attacks but the criminal justice system needs to swiftly swing into action to clamp down on this increasing trend!  >:(

We also need to give the Police proper stop and search powers and cut the associated red tape, and if anyone is found with a bottle of acid then they should have a damn good reason for having one. ie Young lad out on a Saturday night found with a bottle of acid, should be charged with possession of an offensive weapon in exactly the same way as if he was found with a knife!  >:(
