I used anyvan to deliver my car from heathrow to somerset if i remember it was about £220 including insurance.

used any van from Tunbridge Wells to Chester Omega estate cost £285 quick service and no damage

I got a quote from anyvan for £176 which which sounds about right then
From what she tells me it is not insured etc so seems the way to go .

It's been nearly two years since I quit, but we charged £1.25/mile for the base to base journey. Plus VAT, and annoying customer surcharge when applicable.

seems you can't tow cars on motorways?  Unless you are already on one and then only to the next junction.

When I had to recover the Omega from dreary London to Sunny Somerset after the oil blockage I just rented a recovery van - Think it was about £100 ish for the day including insurance and 250 miles. Or if you've got access to forklifts or loading ramps both ends, just rent a 7.5ton flatbed from the local lorry hire place. Or if you've got a suitable tow car, just rent a trailer from the local tool hire place.

Be very careful of the vehicle weights when doing this: an Omega is heavy enough to not be legal on a van based transporter, and needs a heavy towcar to be legal. Many of the rigs you see are illegal.

Yes - I was aware that the Omega + Van probably was going to problematic weight wise  . The gross limit it 3.5 tons IIRC? I'd assumed the Ford Focus in question was going to be lighter though.

I think there is also an issue with newer licenses not allowing you to drive above a certain weight? I was surprised my good old paper one allowed me to drive the 7.5 ton flatbed. No two ways about it - it's a lorry.

Towing rules these days are, the towed vehicle needs to be 100% road legal if any of its wheels are on the ground. ie, Taxed, MOT'd and Insured, and the towed vehicle (with any wheels on the ground) needs to show its own Number plate, the only exception is if the towed vechile is showing current Legal Licences Trade Plates but even then it still needs to be fully Insured and MOT'd.

You cannot use Trade Plates on any vehicle that is being Towed or Driven to a Pre or Un booked MOT, it must show the original Index Plates and be fully Insured.

Motorways, you cannot join a Motorway with a towed Vehicle (again any wheels on the ground) unless you are a Recognised Recovery Vehicle, you can recover a broken down vehicle (normally Van, truck etc, not car) to the next exit (as you say) again. any further you will need to be a Recognised Recovery.
