I think he was being genuine, he categorically stated on the BBC that these cars would be 'scrapped'. I doubt very much a company like Ford would risk a media backlash. We will see.

I don't know, it'll probably have a (negative) effect on air quality when it's smelted down to make bean cans.. (I know, such things use burners to 'burn off' the crap in an environmentally friendly manner, these days - in this country, anyway, but I bet it all gets shipped off to India or China for recycling, where they don't GAS about the environment, so the recycling is cheaper!)
