I have the original N95 and the sat nav if you don't use it that often is fine it will get you from A-B but if you want to use it day in day out get a proper Sat Nav.
The phone itself is fairly reliable but battery life is a bit of a pain, ensure you buy an in car charger if you use the sat nav.
The camera is awesome (see the photos of my miggy in the gallery) I took them with it.
I would ensure you update the firmware before you do anything with it.
The N-Gage stuff for games is quite good but I recommend 2 sites for ringtones /games/programs

http://www.mobile9.com/ and http://www.mobiles24.com/

I am currently awaiting the arrival of the N96 onto the UK market and will upgrade to that :D

Satnav will be used once in a blue moon...cant justify buying a standalone unit as its rarely needed, but when it is needed its REALLY needed if that makes sense... ;D

Intend too have a play and do updates...if its not what im after or is crash happy it will be on Ebay for quite a lot more than ive paid for it....so win win situation.

Basicly ive just bought (waiting for delivery) a Sim Free BNIB Nokia N95 8 gig With Maps & 12month Voice Guidance New Red Edition.

Has anyone got one of these or know much about them in day to day use.

The satnav with built in gprs looks very handy...would installing TomTom be a better option.?

Yes! Latest version can be made to work with internal
Gps so you dont need to buy a seperate gps device,
Although i have not seen evidence of this yet.
Tom tom far superior to nokia maps but still not as good as a dedicated device. Having said that they updated the chip set so it should work better with the latest firmware. Also you dont have to say nokia for guidance or data. On tom tom you just load and go. Add some cameras and pay for a traffic sub, job done.

Expect the phone to crash a lot - its pretty buggy, and the handset itself seems to suffer reliability issues.

Nokia do seem to have gone out of their way to get a massive feature set on it, at the expense of non of it being much cop.

Take no notice of im. Hes got some gay windows mobile thing with a touch screen and a massive qwerty key board that came out of a black and white flash gordan film.

Tbh he has a point. Every nokia ever made starts life full of bugs, they seem to rely on their forum for feed back, and eventually they almost sort it out. Main issue seems to be access points atm.

However there is nothing available with better features. Some crap some not, you cant please all, all of the time. Try Google earth for your mobile, great little app. Watch the data tho.

Yeah, don't know what package u got with your phone but had a repair man come round to my house saying he'd gotten a £100 bill for being online using his GPS constantly the first month he had the phone.

the built in GPS receiver on the N95 is rubbish, you will prob need to get a external bluetooth unit if you want any kind of decent signal in the phone.
In my experience simply not the case??  Never ever had any issues with reception.  Maps V2 uses network connection to provide a rough location as well.

crash happy.
again, not in my experience, not had any issues with it crashing???  Mine is on 24/7 and never had any problems with it.

Early versions had issues, but 8gb is far better.
Not had any issues with latest firmware.
Tut tut tunnie, sweeping statements and all that,
Update your software or upgrade to an 8gig, things have moved on a little since the first ones came out old bean.

Having said that, ahem, i use myn for All my posts now. Some probs with the yab firmware update but it has sorted itself now. Smileys are a pain but doable just. Cut and paste to the right place.
Main thing is i cant type as fast as i can text and the lapy  runs so hot it cooks my swimmers.

For me it saves a fortune. I do not need,
A lap top
Camcorder
Camera
Sat nav.
I pod.
Just an 8gb 95 and its in my pocket.
I was looking into connecting the tv out to my colour screen in the mig. Just imagine the oof forum displayed  on the dash, google earth, tom tom, tv, or a film on a long journey(and dont start banging on about the legal stuff). Alas its proving alot of work
And hence v pricey. And more important things to worry about. Like wishbones.

Pre buy a bundle to match your usage.  And use your home wireless network when at home for general net usage, unless you prefer your pc.
DO NOT USE data ABROAD. hence tom tom, no data charge. I have not used the nokia maps past the first month trial as i had tom tom already on the phone. No comparison. Tom tom all day long.
