Surely not . . . .
« on: 08 September 2017, 16:17:59 »

I was in Tesco this afternoon, and there I saw . . . . .

An aisle of Christmas stuff   :o   puddings, chocolate Santas, mince pies. No, not old stock being sold off. It's September FFS.

I took a picture, but not sorted an alternative to PB yet. Too lazy    ;D

The people responsible MUST be added to TB's cull list.

Christmas runs from 11.59 PM  24th December to one minute past midnight on Christmas day.

The local Marriott Hotel to me, has a banner on its entrance, advertising "Book your Christmas party/Dinner now" Its been there a couple of weeks now  ::)

I don't think of anything Chrimbo related until December  :)

BTW Chrimbo dinner at the Marriott is £49/person, doesn't say if you get a cracker to pull for that price  ;D

I was in a garden centre on Monday, which had a big space cleared and the Christmas stock was being put in there.
We are only just out of August ffs !

I was in the retail trade for almost 40 years, and during all that time Christmas started to come early; at the latest at the beginning of September with selling off the previous years stock, then it went to the end of August with new Christmas stock being offered for sale.

It is like Creme Eggs that we always put out in the week after Christmas, with all other Easter eggs coming soon after.

So nothing changes, and it is all down to Customer demand and your competition.  The customers want it, and if as a retailer you don't do it, someone else will!  Believe me, the stock sells, if it didn't no retailer would use very valuable shelf space to display this stock! ;)

Well, quite. If there were no sales, they wouldn't do it.

I just like being a grumpy old git by mentioning it ! ;D

I know Rog, everyone says what we do about this, moaning in jest about the seasons coming around all too quick, then buy a load of chocolates or mince pies! ;D ;D ;)

I have no problem with mince pies being on sale at any time through the year as for me there is no "season" when it comes to eating them. But the other stuff absolutely not at least until December!

Especially if made with shortcrust pastry, none of this puff pastry pies lark   ::)  Trouble is when the packs have holly and snow and stuff, it just doesn't seem right in "summer". We will sometimes also have a turkey for a big Sunday lunch  :)

Some folk, probably those with not a lot of money but plenty of time on their hands, like to spend what they can afford each week in the build up to Christmas. My poor mum used to get a loan from a doorstep lender every year and just about have it paid off in time for the next Christmas. She also used to get one of those awful Christmas hampers on tick. Does anyone remember jellied chicken in a tin? Gahhhhhhh...... ;D
