Gearbox - Knackered
« on: 07 August 2008, 12:47:55 »

Now won't go into top gear, just slips like mad. Topped up the level - took 1.5 litres, but has made no difference.

Need to source an AR35 as a matter of urgency - I have every intention of fixing it this weekend  :P

If it was a garage, so would I, but ultimately it was an un-seen ebay sale. I guess I just need to accept it will have issues. I'm just lucky I can fix it myself, really!

I haven't told Markie yet - he's helping me change an autobox this weekend, if nobody else is available  ;D

isn't top all done with the 'extra' bit bolted between main box and the bellhousing?

If its been slipping bad, and then thrashed to overcome, the clutches don't last.

that's a very good point, actually.
My plan is to get hold of Pete166 (I think that's his name) ASAP - he's only about 50 miles away, I reckon I could limp down there and buy his AR35 - at least it's known good.

I still maintain these autoboxes are made by cadburys...  :D

I could construct a friendly and polite email, and ask him to cover the cost of the box as a goodwill gesture... but ultimately he has no obligation too.

And I can't be arsed with an argument.

I'd rather put my energy into just fixing it :y

James, if you're still looking for an AR35, I just noticed in a thread in General Help (how to get more power 2.5td) that MutantCav said he has 3 or 4 in stock at the moment. I know he's a fair distance from you but might be worth a shot. :y

Really?

Forgetting tractors for a mo, how many petrol owners have failed autoboxes?  And how many of those that have failed are regularly serviced BEFORE its too late?

i think they are really strong boxes, give them a service at around 100k, and they will easily do 200k.

I suspect yours has never had any attention before James.

and has been driven in a poor state for a while, hence a simple 'service' probably won't fix it.
