I disagree with you all I am afraid :(

I have watched loads of the Olympics and have enjoyed every minute spurring on Team GB :y

Most of the winning Countries pump millions on training there athletes, who when they win uplift their whole Country.. instead what we have is lottery funding and excellent athletes who also work for a living... If our athletes had the backing that other countries have we would win far more which in turn would lift our Country to a high....

As for 2012, I reckon it will be brilliant :y :y

Got to agree with you Daz. I've been watching as much as I can and it's fantastic when the Brits do well. :y It also brings so many nations together in the name of friendship and sport that wars and differences are put to one side. OK, I know it's an absurd amount of money but it will probably only happen once in most of our lifetimes, so in that respect it's a small price to pay.

If we didn't spend this money on the Olympics, the morons in our government would soon find a way to squander it away on some other halfbaked project. At least all the facilities that we'll be left with after the Olympics will benefit our future sports men and women. :y

couldnt agree more. i'm watching as much of the olympics as possible ( especially womens diving and beach volley ball  :P :P)
but my argument is. instead of wasting 18 billion on venues we already have would we not be better off pumping some if not most of that money into backing and training our great atheletes. it's like buggati building the veyron and putting a f*ckin mondeo engine in it. looks stunning and expensive but not gonna win many races. please please please please. put more money into the people doing the events.
