hope this is allowed.  ::) She has a vw polo 1.4 16v auto se 2000yr 45k on the clock.. the oil light came on while driving  :o4or 5 days ago but the oil level was fine, :-? she drove on no further problems. couple or days later  it stalled at a junction.  :(so im thiking the oil light flahed up koz it nearly stalled while driving along. But she was unclear if the light stayed on until she pulled over and had gone out by the time she re started, or weather ot just flashed a couple of times. :-/
any ideas? anybody know what the tick over system is on these and where to look? ihave had the air box off and found some white rubber bits or flapper valve on the inlet side of the filter, from a flapper valve 6 inches from the inlet. it tees off to the exhaust manifold and i prusume is some sort of cold staring aid. be suprised if thats it tho. have not investigated further koz she needs the car. no haynes for it in halfords.
anyone know where to start. thanks

update. Today she lost power while poodling engine
Light came on and a warning buzzer. Pulled over
Stopped car ignition off. Restarted, all ok. Read
On bba reman site that they recon throttle bodies
For the 1.4 symptoms can be loss of power and stalling
130 to recon, aaaaaah.

Bloody hell that was quick. Yeah may have to go that
Route. But need to to diagnose a bit better first if i can
I would imagine there would be a fault code stored but
Dont know of any paper clip style tricks to find out what
They are. I guess i will have to find a local with a code
Reader. break arse. Thanks for reply. Sorry for typing
Problem with browser.

VAG have a rather awful management system on thier cars (originally called Digifant but the trade refer to it as digifart).

It needs a proper diag as it could be a few things including the throttle body

is a snap on diagnostic good enough from my local
Mech. or do i have to swallow my
pride and visit the VAG' s after telling they they where
all a bunch of %£@¥s (in so many words)  last time i was in there. My mrs
Needed to sort a golf as a company car, you would
not believe the stunts they pulled.
The exhaust is loud as well but not leaking, no holes
Its an after market of some sort. And the power steering
pump is leaking and noisy, the fluid seems a bit thick
and sticky to me. Bloody thing, just get myn sorted
And now this starts playing up. Might as well sell the
House and move into the garage at the moment.

Snap on should read it (there are different models - some require a cartridge).

Lol, be aware that a number of the 'premium' brands dont raise a fault light for all codes......its a marketing thing you see!

normaly when the buzzer and light come on its a sign of low oil pressure, the cause is usually a blocked breather on the back of the engine its a round disc like shape with a pipe coming out of it,they are pressed in to the block, plus the 1.4 16v were known for doing there  headgaskets, that was the 2 most common problems with them at the vw dealer ship where i worked for 6 years, best thing to do is go along to your nearest dealers and speak to the head mechanic..hope this helps.. :y :y

you could ask to have a look on the microfiche/computer in the parts dept,to show you where it is, that would save you time and get a price off them aswell ok mate  :y

Well, its still playing up, had a look at the breathers
and they dont appear to be blocked. Took the air box
off and could see the breather lump on the back of
engine, would say its rectangular in shape and i pig to
get at. The pipe leading to the breather system from
air box has a clip on it but is almost impossible to get
off so i started the engine to see if it was breathing
and could see a nice ploom of oil vapour from it.
But i am a little confused, surely if the breather was
blocked it would cause high oil pressure rather than
low? Only thing i found was the throttle cable not
Clipped into its holder, also seemed a bit loose when
clipped back in so, took some slack out.
Coolant is lovely and clean so i dont think its head
Gaskit has a problem by the way, no mayo anywhere.
I guess its to the dealer, like you said. I bet they
Charge a fortune for a diagnostic?
Cheers
