Councils
« on: 18 August 2008, 16:35:09 »

Further to my post today regarding BT phone line.

I am worried how long this will take as I will now have to wait, until the council gives permissions to fix my phone line.

My understanding they will need to close the road in one direction, with traffic lights and cones etc. etc. This is a big job and the Council does not give this sort of permission lightly.

Anyone at OOF familiar with Council time scales or could it go on for months and months and months.

All I ask is a temporary repair in the meantime, but they just will not do it.

Go to go now, this is really annoying me. It has gone from  being a minor inconvenience (phone line broken), to being a major problem, where 4 telegraph poles need to be ordered etc, etc.. WHY, WHY, WHY

Rant over :-*

for the road closure, as not an 'emergency' will be around a week.  Generally, BT put up poles, and seek planning permission later. If on private land (and 3rd party), wayleaves need to be signed up front normally

I'd get onto your local MP, newspapers and so on if I were you. Sounds like this is becoming a farce. Fancy being without a phone for weeks in this day and age.

Just thinking a bit of publicity might bring them to their senses.

Then, the day after it's repaired, phone up BT and cancel your contract saying you've got a nice mobile phone now. ;D

Do BT still do their compensation scheme? Something likeŁ per day after first 2 days?

Don't know. I know my parents had untold hassle a year or two ago but not sure if they got anything back.

First time they fixed it the fault moved to their other line. Next time it moved to one of their neighbours, then the village hall, etc. BT were just passing the dodgy line around the village until they could be @rsed to find a permanent solution. >:(

I think you could claim at least a pro-rata rebate on your line rental, and then start banging on about it being dangerous having no facility to make emergency calls, etc. add a bit of threatened bad publicity...

Actually, for faults like this, I'm surprised BT can't put in some kind of temporary solution, even if it's a box that bridges you to a mobile phone network. I guess they aren't obliged to so they don't.

Dunno about the compensation bit for sure, but think that it still applies.  Likewise, they used to have to pay ground rent to the owner if they have to put a tele pole in their garden....

I thought they put on a divert to mobile for free. Don't think they pay for outgoing mobile calls though.

Check back of phone book for compensation, certainly used to be 1 months rental for every day the line was unusable after first 2 days (working days only).

Back in my day, there would be some kind of bodge, be it cables run in the ditch or whatever...
