V6 cambelt kit
« on: 20 November 2018, 07:31:56 »

My 2003 omega 3.2 v6 is due its cambelt again on 137k.

I know there are variations om cambelt kit for v6 what are they ??

Im looking at Conti ct990k1 Timing Belt Kit+Water Pump VAUXHALL OMEGA B Vectra B 2.5 - 3.2 V6

Good price good brand but unsure if correct style as they do a ct990k2 version

As long as it's for the right engine family you can make any variant of the kit work. You might need to swap the upper 2 pulleys over to the backplate already on the engine and, on the later 2.6/3.2 you might end up with an adjustable lower pulley where the original was fixed but it should fit.

If you want an exact match for your engine you need to match it against the engine number as there were several different variants of the 3.2 kit.

But.. it really isn't an issue to swap the pulleys to your original casting and the kits for the older engines often go for silly cheap prices as I suspect the demand is falling off for these.

QH, kit uses skf bearings and gates or Conti belt, swapping the back plates is all you do,...

Yep, every variety of kit I have seen has had exactly the same SKF bearings. It really doesn't matter what make you pick.

Good price good brand but unsure if correct style as they do a ct990k2 version

Contitech kit CT900K1 is for engine number to 08578511.
Kit CT990K2 is for engine number 08578512 on.
As yours is a 2003 2.6 it's likely the later engine.
The difference appears to be that the later kit has no eccentric on the lower roller. As already said the roller with eccentric can be fitted, it's just more fiddly.

Neither of the Contitech kits conain the water pump. I think you'll have to buy that separately, unless somebody does a bundle.

There's a Contitech CT990K2 kit available here for £65 delivered or make an offer.

Or consider a Gates kit that includes a water pump.

Yep, no V6 cam belt kits include the water pump as it's not even driven by the cam belt.

Given the quality of recent factor water pumps (and I think a few gen ones have died early too) I personally wouldn't change a V6 water pump unless it failed.

It's quite unlikely that it'll disturb the cam belt if it does die.

That's a pity. I missed that the belt was not included. So that adds about £25 to get the belt elsewhere.

The kit i found comes with waterpump. Not made by conti bit aupplier of parts sells it with a waterpump.

Ill check engine number and buy right lit for engine with waterpump.

Yes all may use skf bearing but i trust conti or gates belts.

And for 150 all in with waterpump i think thays a fair price..

But i shall still shop around

Also mine a late 3.2 not 2.6

Id rather not be swapoing back plates etx

Wateprump issue dont buy a cheap one haha i swapped three on omegas v6 ive done always at cambelt and never had issues.. this had pump done at 75k with belt last time when my dad had car ...

It be getting swapped silly not to while belt being done

quick question then as side note

if thinking of having heads of and a skim before fitting new cambelt would it be worth using earlier kit with adjustable lower pulley. Im guessing buy early kit with eccentric lower pulley. Leave the top big plate on my engine swap new pulleys onto it and use adjustable lower pulley. As thinking of giving heads a good skim say 0.5mm maybe smidge more need to work it out... as wanting to get CR uo to 10.8.1

Im doing loads of woek over course of next year to v6

Compression raise
Fast road cams.
Mild porting
Exh manifolds
Sports cats
And eithe piggyback ecu or aftermarket

So compression ratio raise to original v6 spec is what im going for... 3.2 and 2.6 were lowered for emissions and other stuff.. 3.0 and 2.5 had high comp so taking it to that before i start anything else
