Fancy a new car?
« on: 04 December 2006, 13:11:47 »

At first glance, the paper specs of this dont seem all that bad....

Range      200 – 240 miles
Acceleration      0 to 60 < 4.5 secs with 200HP’s and CVT transmission system
Top Speed      120 mph

Then theres the rest of the spec....

Charge rate      30 minutes for 20 – 50 miles
Full Charge      2 hrs (fast), 5 hrs (normal)
Electric Propulsion
Drive system      120 kW, 220 Nm, 13,000 rpm
Regenerative braking
Innovative Lead Cobalt Battery made with Lead-Foam grids by Apollo Energy Systems, Inc.
Charger      Onboard, plug in anywhere,
Up to 20 kW
Vehicle to grid (V2G)      Bi-directional grid interface

OK, its an electric City car sort of thing.....  Whats the price?

US$49,000 - available in the third quarter of 2008

Pricey and, with shipping, could be out of my financial reach.  Whats it look like then?

wheres my sunglasses?

Just the one please.     Where did I park it again?

 ;D

Hmmmm.......looks like a Noddy and Big Ears car with attitude, impressive spec though!!

Autoexpress featured a prototype electric Mitsubishi Evo recently that was powered by a motor for each wheel. Can't remember the figures but incredible performance for an electric car.

The only problem I got with these new electric/hybrid/fuel cell cars, is that they make them look so CRAP! Why can't they employ someone with a sense of style and design etiquette to design these things? That would do better for promotion than any government incentive, such as reduced tax and zero emissions rebates.

Don't get me wrong. If a good looking H2 fuel cell car came out that was affordable, and had that, or similar spec, I'd buy it. Wouldn't be seen dead in any of the current concepts.

Another example is the Toyota Prius with Hybrid Synergy Drive. Not only is the car rubbish, it looks horrible. In fact, I dont think there are any toyota's I like the look of any more.

The Evo is a 2ltr Petrol engine... unless theres a new one that has a 20+kW Fuel Cell power plant, which I dont know about!

It looks like a plastic Mikra.  It would be great to work it by remote control when you're at the wrong end of the car park & it's raining.  Just needs a little camera here and there...as it already looks like a toy.
