I listened to it on BBC news at six and they said it was not connected.

Likewise, in the article on the bbc news app, the only references to Brexit are two quotes, one from the Unite National officer and one from sky news who both claim its connected. But they also quote Liam Fox and another politician who say its not connected and is down to global trends. The reporter doesn't opine one way or the other  .

Given there's no official statement, it seems like a pretty balanced representation of opinions.

More likely to do with the EU/Japan FTA I think and would have happened BREXIT or no BREXIT.

I expect Japan has a lighter touch regulatory environment and it is cheaper to manufacture and ship from Japan as there will be no trade barriers.  The same applies to Nissan's decision to produce the new X Trail in Japan.

A quick check shows that Japanese workers get 10 days paid holiday raising at a rate of one day per year to a max of 20 days. Compare that to 28 days in the EU from the off....

Not saying that we should only get 10 days, but it shows how uncompetitive we've become. Add in things like the Working Time Directive, carbon taxes, high energy costs etc.....

Correct, but earlier bulletins in the afternoon were saying the opposite.

Well if these car companies are stupid enough to spread their procurement and processes across an entire continent....

I was thinking while listening to the news on my way to work. Do I know anyone who currently drives a Honda? 

I don't think I do. Go back 15 years and they were a big player. Every so often I'm driving down the motorway and I see something that looks like an explosion in the chav department at the local Halfrauds and see that it's the new Honda Civic or whatever. Once an iconic hatchback, popular at the hot hatch end of the market, where it was probably the best of the bunch, and the OAP sunday driver end simultaneously. So I see the Honda badge on that abomination and the odd bland looking SUV and wierd Prius-like treehuggerwagens and that's it.

Brexit or not, they've lost their way big time, IMHO.

S'funny I was thinking the self same thing over here too.
When we came here 15 years ago there was a sea of CR-v's and to a lesser extent BR-v's alongside the bread and butter mid to small Hondas , they were very common and liked .
The eighth generation Civic died a death here alongside it's third generation CR-v brother with neither being seen in any Lidl or Aldi carpark nowadays ..
They were a staple "country" brand over here in a sector now lost to Dacia , Hyundai and Kia .
I too also think they lost design direction and suffered the consequences .

You are right. Bloke near where we are staying has a fairly new honda SUV and a second one about 15 years old. Both in rare  silver. Havent seen any others .

All the car manufacturers have caught a cold with diesel and petrol to a lesser extent. The race is on to make electric cars. That being the case you would wonder about Honda , Renault, Mercedes involvement in F1.
