Im Just having to pay to have a cambelt kit, waterpump and suspension arm fitted and a set of spark plugs (£288).

I guess i could do the suspension arm myself along with the spark plugs but cambelt is way beyond me

Now i've heard that car tax for my 2.5 will be something like £410 next year, im now thinking, because of service costs and fuel for this thing, im debating whether it is even worthet keeping the dear ol car ?

I've only had it 2 months !!!

If your car is Y reg or newer (from 2001) then yes, it will be going up.

In that case it'll only go up by about £15 IIRCC... However, that all depends if the thieving robbing barstewards in power decide to rob some more from the poorer people running old cars!

As an aside, if things remain as they are then the cars between about '99 and '01 will hold their value a little better

Nonsense, get the V6 Cambelt DVD, its not hard. If you can change sparkplugs without dropping anything down the hole, the cambelt will be easy  

Seriously, provided you line up the cogs before taking the belt off, don't move anything before putting the new tensioners and belt on, then thats all there is to it.

Loads mike but i have seen james do his own  so many times that i now could manage with doing  one on my own

you are ok for now. All those with Y reg and newer should only tax their cars for 6 months if due now, then in 6 months time tax it for 12 months at the old rate and before the budget robbery comes into force. If your tax expires on or before the end of February 09 you can postpone the increase, sorry daylight robbery, for a year or so. However if your current or renewed tax expires at the end of March 09, the renewal in April 09 will be at the new rate, it may be worth surrendering your tax in February, claiming March back and renewing straightaway for 12 months in February.That'll keep a few welsh civil servants busy. Then again Brown might p--s off back to Fife and leave us alone.
