Windows SP3
« on: 23 August 2008, 01:10:43 »

Just done a fresh windows install.

Activated the disk, tuned on the updates and then gone to the down load site.

Done the full SP3 upgrade.

Still on IE6, is IE7 not part of the SP3 upgrade.? :-/

Also just checked, still on Media Player 9.  Thought it was higher than that now. ? :-/

I rarely install service packs - a new service pack is a good excuse to rebuild, and I always rebuild with a slipstreamed version.

SP2 for XP in particular I wouldn't install, I treat that as a new OS, and its never wise to upgrade OS.

Well I did the download for Media Player and IE7 upgrades.

Glad I saved them to disk rather than load them.

IE7 was installed last night but I didnt use it and went to bed.  Cam to use the computer this aftr noon and IE7 just kept crashing and giving errors.

I COULD'NT GET ON THE OOF.  :o :o

Thought well stuff it it, then realised I couldnt install Mozilla as I could not download it.  That will be the 1st think downloaded on future reinstall's.

IE7 reinstalled so lets see how long it lasts this time.  :-/

Good advice - many times upgrading with an MS service pack works ok - but if you are one of the unlucky ones you will probably find your system trashed.  Best to slipstream and reinstall.

Seen a number of customers when I had my Computer Shop fall foul of XP SP2 - with in one case quite expensive data recovery to get back wedding photos.  Before trying any o/s upgrade BACK UP - either just your data or better clone your hard drive.

The layout of IE 7 is definately better in my opinion. No need to open loads of browsers as you open tabs instead. But then I suppose you could argue that you only need to open one tab / browser - the OOF site!
