Between Talk Talk and Openreach we have been left with no land line and no internet access for 2 days. Two visits from Openreach have failed to 'connect us'.........I'm using a dongle to write this.

Is this an alternative because I think Talk Talk and Openreach should be first in line for TB's cull.

TBH it seems rather pricey. In a combination that will doubtless incur TB's wrath, we've been using the TP Link one shown below and a 3 mobile unlimited SIM to run our home internet since March this year.

In that time I've had to reboot it once as it wouldn't let SWMBO's iPhone connect. But I'm not 100% as to whether the fault was with the router, as all my devices and her laptop connected fine. It's also about the same reboot rate we used to incur with the BT home hub (4?) That we had at the last place.

3 signal isn't great here (1 of 3 bars on the router) and I'm getting 20mb down and 5mb up. So it's not breaking any speed records, but at £20pcm it's fine for now.

If its just for a few days,then just use a phone in Hotspot mode.

If its longer have a look at my Vodafone Unlimited 5G Sim Post in GChat this week, they are doing this on 12, 24m or 30 day plans.

Hauwei Mifi units are as good as any. Their technology in the mobile chipset is probably class leading, aside from being a bit buggy and desperately insecure.

You will be at the mercy of the mobile signal and how many other people in your cell are using it though, which can make it a bit hit and miss.



Back to your original issue, as long as you can prove its not the bit you are responsible for, then its up to TalkTalk to resolve.  If thats not happening, then write to their complaints dept and then to Ofcom (but don't hold your breath).

I have now had 3 telephone diagnostics with Talk Talk (before everything went completely dead) .......and each time they insist the fault is outside and therefore the responsibility of Openreach. They then arrange an engineer to call.

Openreach have repeatedly insisted the fault is NOT their problem and told me another £65 is chargeable. Talk Talk are insisting it is not their problem The bill is now up to £130  and we still have no land line or internet. I have refused to pay.

I have also stopped the DD with Talk Talk so any payment to them will/should  not be allowed by the bank.

Jimmy...... your TP Link looks good, but the Huawei will allow me to plug a standard telephone into the back and use the minutes up on the sim card. Therefore, I can do away with the landline altogether.

Oooohhh, I hadn't spotted that! That would be the perfect solution for my parents who are looking to also do away with their poxy BT offering (2mb down 0.5 up at its best).
