I think most cars relieve the symptoms, but some are more effective than others.

Had it all replaced in April that's correct, but have had enough of towing with a manual,  used a friends Shogun on Wednesday to bring a caravan from  Birmingham back to Norfolk and was very impressed the automatic box was brilliant , plus the diamond model has absolutely everything, if this one's as good as it looks it's time to move on, had the Hyundai for 7 years now so it's had a good run.😎

Looked at it didn't bother with a road test simply not up to my standard for a 1 owner vehicle.

best to do a lot of research into likely common faults etc and the costs involved before buying something new or newer ,
you test drove your friend's and liked it, test drive a few other makes and models
the in-laws just PXed a santa fe with nothing wrong with it against a Fraud Kuga tractor juice edition 
I had the manuals and code reader that worked on the santa fe , I have no ford stuff
so one car less to repair  for me

they have a tin shed they drag about too

It had an excellent service history no expense spared, but had not been prepared properly in my opinion by the dealership several scratches & supermarket dents caused by idiots flinging their doors open, one of the alloys was pitted badly so couldn't be bothered negotiating if they can't be bothered doing  their bit properly.

Driven no end of 2.8d Shoguns from that sort of era, and they are all clunky poor interior build.  The 2.8 is also a dog.

The Shogun has a plastic cam chain guide that have been known to go brittle, break up and wreck the timing gear. 

I think it was a recall where they swapped the plastic guide for a steel one, but best to check if it has been done.  If not I think it is a fairly cheap and easy job to do, as the part costs about £15. 

As I recall you can see the guide through the oil filler cap, so have a look when you go and view, and if the guide is plastic then it's a terrible thing that will cost ££££ to sort out!

Next door neighbour has a black 55 plate he's owned since it was ex demo. Looks smart and tows his burger van well. Claims he's never had any issues with it.

At the other end of the scale I've got an auto terracan you can have for under a grand, new timing belt and everything

This is the newer 3.2 model the 2.8s were phased out several years ago.

A previous job still runs some newer to new ones, but the security ones they replaced with Hilux last year were '57/'08 with well over 200k on them... Apparently they were pretty reliable, but cost a small fortune to maintain. I suspect that this is due to a combination of Mitsubishi parts prices and really short service intervals.

Not too bad on the road though and they seem better built than a Range Rooney

Simply too many cars Ste. We both have a daily/commuter, so then its down to keeping either the Terracan or the Berlingo. Simply put the Berlingo holds more 'stuff' and is £100 a year to tax and not £300. Also, given I haven't done my trailer test I can (legally) tow about the same weight with either car, although its a MUCH nicer experience in the Terracan.

I'll probably lose about £500 on it, but its done 10,000 pretty much trouble free miles, and to my mind neither of those is a bad deal given that the car was a mistake (with Hindsight, it was right at the time). I will definitely miss the old girl and rate them infinitely higher than anything JLR produced at a similar time.
