XP very slow????
« on: 27 August 2008, 21:09:48 »

Is there a good free Windoes XP programme that can help spped up a tired comp????
The internet is dog slow, but is broadband
The general operation is also slow.
I have done full system scan for virus and spyware
I have done a disc clean up and defrag
The above has made it a tad better but not much.

Any ideas????

1: Have you tried minimising the number of non-critical programmes that begin automatically at startup?
CCleaner has a convenient tab for editing 'Startup' services/programmes. :y

2: A clean re-install often works wonders on a bloated XP sluggard-installation

I normally find that when it gets that slow it is time to do a full back up and then a complete clean install of the operating system and drivers, will give it a new lease of life.

Best solution for XP, it does need regular rebuilds...

Check your hard disk usage. More than 80% full means the swap file is probably doing overtime.

Apart from that, a fresh re-install will bring the zip back to where it was, but you will have a load of updates to do... :(

As far as a full back up goes, basically just copy all your important files pics, videos, etc etc and burn to a cd/dvd, so that you can re-install after reloading operating system. you can pm me and I will tell you how to do a clean install should deffo sort out your problem as this is a trait of xp

No just copy what you want saving...pop in xp disk and it has option of deleting partions and then clean install....xp will hold your hand pretty much the whole way.
