I think its just a matter of time to land on the right car, allthough a tractor with 156k you alls need to consider if its been a taxi or not, and allthough most people are honest, there are some who are not and there is a tendancy for clocking on the taxis (by no means do I infir that all taxi drivers are dodgy)

All I am thinking is a cheap car now might be a more exspensive one in the long run. :y

Hi. Do you think this is worth buying and repairing?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1996-VAUXHALL-OMEGA-2-5-TD-CD-AUTO-BLUE_W0QQitemZ290256139613QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item290256139613&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

For me it is too old, too high in mileage, and comes with too many issues as a cat 'C' right off. :'(

There are just so many better examples of miggy's out there Kate, at good prices (and getting lower!) without serious issues, that you can go for.  Keep looking! ;)

All the  best! :y :y

Probably not that far away, have you had a look at the car auctions, might be worth a look, at least you can see and hear what you are buying rather then bidding blind on it.

Ebay is full of them,!!!
Kate, you worry me  :( there are no 'superbargin cars' for £200 or so that are not going to be full of trouble, that is why they are that price. Yes there are the odd exception but these will be 80's Datsun's.

Please please do not buy a car without the assistance of OOF

Cat C write off isn't so much of a prob these days. A car of that age is worth not a lot, so you wouldn't make a profit fixing and selling, so its prob reached the bottom of its value. It might need the identity checked by the police before using on the road, although you aren't going to ring a car of that age, and all the parts are bolt on. Its a queston of will it need lots of servicing etc. Just this week, 2 Mig's came into the scrap metal plant next to me, one was a "T" reg, looked OK, with nice alloys. Mind you we had 2 Mercs and a Jag in today. The market is going silly at pres, cars that originally cost a packet are running out of tax and people can't get sell them because of the threatened road tax rise, so they scrap them. I would suggest caution and pick your new target carefully, remember if you have to change the cambelt/tensioners, it will still cost you a good £75+ (more for a V6) in parts if you do all the work yourself.

I would fully endorse Mike's advice, and just add that if you cannot afford more than £200 for buying a miggy I would think very seriously if you can afford to run one! :-/

Sorry to be blunt, but they are NOT cheap cars to maintain or run and a very low limited budget is not compatiable with an Omega of any age. ;) ;)

Thanks Lizzie, you are so right.

I'm really really old though so insurance is low low low and I only drive
2 miles a month so petrol costs are negligible.

I also have a 'tax in post sign' ;D
