Congratulations on the pass Lizzie  :)
your's will be due it's first gearbox service ,if you ever do enough miles to get it up to 80k  ;D
TBE's probably needs some fresh ATF, seeing as its done 150k  ::)
if it aint broke  ;D
advice generally is either service it regularly or leave it alone ,
doing an ATF change on a high mile box that has never been serviced could well kill it

Last AR35 on the daily had a fluid, filter change at 127K, it lasted just under another 100K.

Despite all the abuse that the AR35 in the Bullet had, I think it did well to last well over 230k.  But it was ultimately the cause of its demise.

That said, it was often sat at the lights with the brakes hard on, and the throttle just below where it would stall, for maximum acceleration ;D

Does the AR25 box suffer the same? Only asking as I have just bought all the parts to change my ATF on a 150K box with no history.  It seems to be a bit sluggish on changing up and I was hoping an oil change might help.

If it's bolted to a 2.6 you'll find they are all like that - hold onto the revs in the lower gears (when up to temp so not the normal warm up mode).

To my knowledge, my AR35 has never been touched. Im currently undecided between fluid and filter change, or leave as is and stick another box in if it gives trouble.
It performs faultlessly at the moment, and I have other priorities on both cars, so a decision isn't high on the priority list.

Thanks all :y :y

I am now left wondering if I should have the gear box serviced or not given the various comments above.  What is the official Vx recommendation please?  What is the experienced gear box OOF’rs view on that?

I have no knowledge of what is right or wrong when it comes to gear boxes; never been trained in any aspect of them or touched them, apart from being a driver and knowing how to use them to the full! :D ;)

A lot of companies advised "sealed for life" re gearboxes ,but everyone I know myself included notices much smoother action if oil & filter change is carried out, I had the Subaru done when I bought it & the Range Rover was done last year they both are silk smooth in operation, personally for what it costs it is worth it.

The Range Rover was £279 .97 complete  the filter kit on its own was £133 so oil & labour was around £146.
The Subaru was around £145 all in.

That's pretty reasonable to keep your car on the road.

With TC perhaps I will get it cheaper with Vx, although I agree with STEMO that your cost with a Range Rover is very reasonable to keep a car going, especially when I consider how much I have spent already on my Omega! ::) ::) :D :y
