What? For the last month or something? Doubt it would make the top ten over a year.

They're a considered choice. But given the 0% BIK on electric company cars, they are a complete no brainer.

Right now a company car driver has the choice between a car that will hit 60 in less than six seconds, with tech that's on a par or better than the best exec saloons from other manufacturers. Or you could have a fairly boggo spec Skoda Octavia diesel.

It's no wonder they're selling.

What's a company car?  ::)

A 0 - 60 time is great, but other than a Traffic Light Grande Prix, it means nothing. A range is all well & good, but you need to be able to charge then enroute to where ever. The bog standard Skoda will still beat the Tesla on a run of more than a few hundred miles

There's about a million of them on UK roads, excluding fleet vehicles. They're not exactly rare ::)

Yes, an ice vehicle will be quicker than a tesla over anything over about 200miles, assuming you do it without stopping, which I would say is relatively rare.

But how often does that ever matter? I do 25-30k a year across a couple of vehicles, about 23k ish in the e-golf. The longest journey I regularly make is Birmingham to Bridgewater and even with a range of 120-130mils, the e-golf only adds less than an hour to my day.  Even the base model tesla would do it without adding any meaningful time.

Anytime EVs are discussed, suddenly everyone becomes a driver that needs to do 800miles, nonstop, towing a caravan. And for 99% of people it's absolute rubbish. The average annual use for a car is about 9k miles, or 12k in company cars.

So, would you prefer better performance, tech and a quieter, smoother ride, or being able to keep driving over 250miles nonstop, both times a year when it happens. I know which I prefer  :y

True ... but if you ever did need to tow a caravan further than the end of the street, you'd need AN Other vehicle. And at the moment charging them is going to be fairly easy as there a very few of them on the road. There'll come a time when you're the 4th or 5th in the queue to charge, & that overall charging time has gone up somewhat.  ;)

And, so far, there are zero charging points at work

Generally, those with EVs have a second car (according to the marketing data) for the occasions where they just don't work.

I could have an EV (as its on the scheme) but, the 140+ mile round trip commute means very regular charging (not even charging points at work) and the real reality that just popping out of an evening would not be possible without car 2.

Now if it had a fuel cell that could be filled up........

Note BIK does not apply in this case, as its not a taxable perk  :y
