So my friend again, informed that his 2003 (Petrol) 2.2 saloon behaves in a strange way. Starting  normally in the morning but stops after a couple of seconds. When trying to start again cranks very well but does not fire. After (e.g.) 30 seconds starts and run normally. Pedal trick gave (according to him) 1613. What I am going to do is just to visit him and check & clear first this code as might be something older... Never heard of 1613, any ideas where to start. I have Mickey Mouse code reader which can read live data, too, from everywhere. All comments most welcome.

Cam sensor.

Code is a random gearbox one.

As ever, a genuine sensor from a genuine Opel dealer that you genuinely have to walk in to

Nope.

2.2 always gives a crank sensor code for the crank sensor, and a random gearbox code for the cam sensor.

2.6/3.2 always gives a cam code for cam sensor and no code for crank sensor.

Symptoms are the same regardless, except 2.2 eventually starts, but the v6 doesn't  No MIL/EML as the engine technically doesn't put one on unless it affects running, which doesn't happen until it has successfully fired

Obviously there are exceptions, but 99.9% as above.

The 2.2 16V cam sensor is GM part #90520850 / Opel Kat #62 38 079 which is manufactured by Siemens with part #5WK96052 (5WK9-605-2).

Last reported they were special order from Germany and very expensive. Not sure if they still are.This sensor was also used on Astra G so you might strike lucky with an Opel dealer in Finland who has old stock. If not then you need to find the genuine Siemens part. VDO (Continental) parts were the proper Siemens part but now seem to be very scarce as VDO obsoleted them over a year ago.

Thanks for all, we report back as soon as my friend moves with this... I would have done it already!

So "job jobbed", my friend got used GM part from scrapped running engine and changed it.

Before he changed it I visited him and found two codes + some text with my Mickey Mouse reader (engine not running):

1. P1613 - (0) Immobilizer No Or Wrong Signal - Not Present
2. P0304 - (2) Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected - Not Present

So we cleared all codes and used part now installed. No codes with pedal trick presently. Started normally and running normally. Coming back to original fault: "2.2 starts and then stop..." I heard that this did not happen every time when started, let's see what is the situation in long term, thanks and we keep you informed if (hopefully not) more help needed.

So, after one week daily use of this 2.2 this problem did not happen even once, so seems to be ok, thanks again...

Fingers crossed, and at least he'll know where he needs to get a new sensor when that one fails
