It's basically a way of shifting all the end of line tat ready to stick upnwith next years tat.

We used to get January sales, but retail hass gotten more desperate over the years so have gone for the American way of doing stuff...

This usage dates to at least 1961. I read the title, and thought, "Yeah, it's always white middle class people, building stupid homes about 4 foot by 6 foot...maybe George Clark is rascist and there's load of tiny houses built by people of colour"

Then I spotted Greg.....

This morning, listening to Radio 4, an interviewee kept referring to people OF colour.  It's weird to.me that if "coloureds" is not acceptable, why "people of colour" is.

But what do I know? I'm white, male, middle aged and mediocre.

On a similar note - why is it that (in the U.S. at least) people of colour cab call one another the N word, but if a white person uses the word, in almost any context, it is an extremely serious hate crime ?

An Indian immigrant at the Michigan Legislature hearing reffered to herself as 'brown' and questioned why it seemed to be only the 'white Republican males' poll watchers who where being bullied and prevented from doing their jobs. She went on to observe that whilst she accepted the right of BLM to exist and 'protest', why were those rights not extended to middle aged white people...

The audience applauded and the representative from Detroit almost had a fit
