I've just been thinking about the payback time for my LPG conversion whilst in the shower (gave up trying to sleep as it's the start of my 4 days off!!)  

I reckon I'm saving a little over 10p per mile but we'll call it 10p.
All in, after any extras I've bought separately, and paying to get the conversion certified, I've spent about £750 but we'll call it £800 for arguments sake!
Which means payback will be in 8000 miles

This really does make it a no-brainer as that's less than 6 months for me... Closer to 3 than 6 in fact

Or alternatively thinking... 300 miles to a tank (very approximate), so around 27 tanks of gas... I'm about to fill up for the 5th time so have used 4 tanks, therefore have saved enough money to cover nearly 15% of the cost already

Puts it all into perspective really... If you're capable of going down the DIY route then you'll be able to make your money back in no time at all... Then just enjoy the feeling of running around in a big, luxury car for the same price as running a small hatchback

Needs to be certified for a lot of insurers but other than that they must be informed. Most insurance companies will now insure an LPG car for the same price as an unconverted car... If not, go elsewhere

The only thing is that, in the event of a claim,  they are unlikely to pay out any more for the car than if it was standard... So you just have to be aware that the kit price is dead money

I'm quite willing to help anyone with a conversion but I won't "do it" for someone, as per the comments from KW, Jv6 etc. It is major surgery but simple enough if you have the patience

It took me 3 days in all, but they were long, wet days because I don't have a garage

Yours would take a little longer to pay for itself because the spare wheel tanks are a bit more expensive (and considerably smaller) than the cylinder I've stuck behind the back seats

Your figures are about the same as mine - based on expensive gas too. If you're lucky enough to be in a part of the country where you can get gas in the low 50's a litre it's even more of a no-brainer.

Have you had your install certified now? Any comments / corrective action needed? Must get mine done. Insurance renewal in about 3 weeks IIRC.

I'm waiting to hear back from Teilo as to whether he expects to be able to certify conversions soon or not (as it would be free with him!)

But if all else fails I know I can get it done locally with next to no notice! I can't see any snagging points, other than the feed line running up the wheel arch (hence why I protected mine with a bit of old heater hose), so should be OK

Very tempted to do my MV6, and the father in law his Vectra CDX

both estates, could be a joint project coming up.

Really think we are getting to a point where a separate LPG conversion section on the forum would be handy

Well, my insurance company said they might write to me asking for "evidence that it had been converted". Didn't ask for an LPGA certificate, didn't say who could convert it. They have since written to me and said the modification is noted and re-issued the schedule, so if it comes to the worst I will send them a link to my lpg photos on here as that's certainly evidence that my car has been converted, I'd say.

does any one know is it cheaper to buy the lpg kit yourself and pay someone to fit it or just to get someone to supply and fit?

Around 750 quid to buy the kit,around double for supply &fit.

The conversion must put some value on the car so when you take this into account, payback is even sooner.

With regards certification, my insurer (Privilege) were happy for me to send them a signed COP11 inspection form that is simply a checklist that says your kit is installed in accordance with the COP. The guy I spoke to was quite clued up and said the LPGA certs weren't worth the paper they are written on due to the number of crap installers out there.
