No, the breast would be cut up after we finished suckling on it
then boiled, nothing wasted, it was tender and the fat was lovely. I still make it myself now
: can’t beat it after fetching a pine end down in the heart of winter.
Anything tastes great after four hours in a pan with carrots or cabbage with onion. Me mam could feed six of us for two days on a a good piece of meat. Bacon ribs with lentils, barley, spuds, onion and cabbage was a real belly buster, and when it went too thick to scoop, throw another pan of boiling water in it. The meal that just kept on giving.
I'm pretty sure most people don't do this sort of thing these days.

It's takeaways and ready meals and then they moan that the government doesn't give them enough to live on!

I bought a large chicken in Lidl the other day for about £3.50 and a load of veg for about £1.50. I had a roast chicken dinner the first night, cold chicken meat with fried roast potatoes the second, then I made a chicken/spaghetti stew with the rest which lasted two more nights and there was probably enough for 2 more nights but I couldn't face it.

Oh and a couple of rounds of chicken sarnies as well!
