Mobile Phone contract ending soon.....
« on: 03 September 2008, 00:45:16 »

The wifes mobile contract ends in another month or two....i hear alot about people getting free upgraded phones but not sure how it all works.

Thing is she (well ok me) got a fairly good deal...Nokia 6300 on o2 with 200 mins and 200 text per month on a 12 month contract at £30 per month and a ps3 as a freebie...so when the contract expires what happens.

Will she just carry on paying £30 and getting the free mins/texts or does she ask for a upgrade on the phone....do they try too change price plan or make you take out new contract ect ect.

Any advice gratefully received. :y

Did mine and the wifes moblie last month and just upgrade the the contract well renewed it if you like.  We stayed with the handsets that we had and whent for the ps3 for me and the wii and wii fit for the wife and now we pay £30 pound a month were we used to pay £35 but could have just gone for the top of the range new phones try the web carphone warehouse....E2saver or one stop phone shop but they are all owned be the carphone warehouse.

You can usally get what you want if you push a little.
Good luck. :y :y

Well i went through e2save on the o2 contract....would rather just stick with o2 as id like too build up a decent credit rating with them.

Is it possible to stick with current provider paying what she is now and ask for a decent upgrade....?

With Vodaphone once your contract is past its renewal date, i.e. 12 or 18 months since previous renewal, you can enjoy a free upgrade on selected models (although this list has been reduced in recent years) or pay a contribution towards an upgrade of an advanced, more expensive, model. ;)

Recently I was also offered, and accepted, an 18 month contract, instead of a 12 month one, in exchange for my monthly package cost being reduced by 50%, from £25 to £12.50! 8-) 8-) :y

Well I have been a customer of theirs for 18 years! :D :D ;)

I never take the phone upgrade option, as I don't need to change my phone every 2 minutes.

My current deal I have on 2 phones is 100m/100 texts per phone, o2 pay me to use their service....

Actually, its due next month, doubt I'll get such a good deal.  Currently, they are paying me around £12 a month.....

how it works, never take a freebie as its loaded onto your price!

To retain you your providor should be calling you before contract end date to secure your services for another period of time. In return they give you a belter of a deal. Dont take the first offer.

Mention offers you have seen for new cutomers, or with other networks.

If they dont play ball then leave  :y

It costs the mobile companies about £400 to connect a new customer ( primarily by paying the high street man comission and absorbing the free handset) so threaten then with "disconnect / reconnect"

I think only you will be happy with the deal you get....I myself think the deal i got was a good one to the fact that i use my mobile a fair bit and  my wife a little more than me and on the high street the min/txt deal i would have gone for was going to cost the same and no gifts so why not take advantage...I'm also not conned into thinking that the gift is entirely free but seeing i wanted the blueray feature of the ps3 and my wife wanted the wii it ment i dident have to cash up all at once.

Hope you find a deal your happy with and the advice myself and others have give has been of use to you mate. :y :y

If you dont want to upgrade your phone & just use the one you got you can get a deal with Virgin Mobile, using your own phone, both me & wifey have the deal hardly use home phone, bills pretty much minimum charge each month .....
300mins & 300 texts for £10 month  :y

Ps3 was basically £350 ish at the time....so with selling the phone £80 it meant i was in effect buying the ps3 over 1 year intrest free and a sim we could use too make free calls on.

Method too my madness.....i know minutes are terrible as i get 300 mins X network and 300 texts with virgin for £10 month. :y

Same as willyboy by the looks of it. :)
