European Train Travel
« on: 04 September 2008, 11:00:30 »

Hi Guys

In November I am travelling from Amsterdam Central to Brussels-Midi by Thalys high speed train.

I've booked online and printed my ticket - but just wondered if anyone has ever done this route.

Do I just hop on the train with the ticket I've printed, or, do I have to "check in" anywhere? Are passports needed?

Anyone done this route? ::)

Not done this route but have done Thalys.  You will need your passport everywhere you go in Europe as we dont have ID cards which would have sufficed.  Driving license doesnt cut it either.  There is no check in as such because both countries are signaturies to the Shegin agreement of which we are not (due to the immigration/calais problem)  This means you can cross continental european boundries without hinderance.

We will have passports anyway...

But just to clarify - we won't need them on the train - just jump on with the tickets i've printed?

Just jump on the train with your ticket and occasioanly the plain cloths ticket inspectors pop on to check them!

Amsterdam central station is actually quite small by capital city standards so no worry about finding your way to the right palce.

The dutch train system is mega efficient to!
