I had considered building a new PC for myself but cant get the CPU that I want and adding to that a decent GPU.

Some stock for the CPU became available but I was too late.

Now I read there is about (Possibly) to be a HDD/SSD shortage.

Lots of mining going on. No chance of the windmills keeping up if everyone decides to have 5 PCs running 24 hours a day. Crypto could reach $250,000 but kill the planet

You just scared prompted me to buy another 3 240GB Crucial BX500 solid state drives 

I just fitted a Gigabyte 240GB Solid State Drive in a PC i built for myself 
but the Crucial ones are about 30p cheaper 
both makes have 3 year limited warranty

Factories have slowed down or shut. People are at home, not going out and not having anything to buy. Some of those people will hit PC gaming hard. Hence it's driven the demand up. Add to that people working from home, thus buying more kit and you can see why some stuff is out of stock.

I will say, I've order 2 x 4 lots of PC's in the last 3 weeks and haven't struggled for components.

Plus the fact they reckon there is a Silcone shortage affecting production.

A big driver on the GPU shortage is automotive demand.

ADAS systems use mass image processing functions and the likes of Nvidia moved production from graphics silicon to these.

Automotive silicon supply at the moment is in a very bad way, daily issues.

There are globally loads of silicon shortages.  the current SNAFU around the EU trade agreement makes the UK hard to deal with, so we get a double hit with shortages.

Some of the shortages in the supply chains are due to all the shite that's gone on in the last year, both due to supply chain capacity, and due to a higher demand for them from both consumer and the datacenter.


This is already on top of a pre batflu, pre Brexit shortage of (particularly Intel) CPUs, which have driven demand for AMD shite, and for GPUs which are being used more for their processing capabilities more than their screen outputs in all sorts of industries.  Bit Barns are buy-in them up in bulk straight from the likes of AMD and nVidia in quantities that they can never make enough of them.  Some popularist press like to blame bitcoin mining, but most GPUs going into that semi dark market are used for encryption cracking etc.

TSMC had a wobble a few months ago, I bet that hasn't helped, given the amount they send towards automotive...

Not as big an issue as the fire at AKM in Japan last year and the more recent one ar Renesas (also in Japan).

The former wiped out 85% of the TCXO supply and the latter the most widely used MCUs

Old news to some Intel are developing thier 12th CPU Generation CPU (LGA1700) allready so I reckon by the time the 11th Gen (LGA1200) becomes available the 12th Gen will be in production.

Old news to some Intel are developing thier 12th CPU Generation CPU (LGA1700) allready so I reckon by the time the 11th Gen (LGA1200) becomes available the 12th Gen will be in production.

I'll let you into a secret, they are actively developing about 3 generations ahead of that, with the 13th gen likely already in the first silicon trials.  The 12th is effectively a tock cycle, so has short development anyway.
