I've been a member for a few years, I can't say I actually use it that much but I agreed with what it does IE: Preserve buildings and land of national significance.

However the last year or so it had been moving along the "Woke" trail of raising issues about links to slavery blah blah, removing statues etc.

My membership renewal is next month and I was seriously considering whether to cancel the direct debit. I made this known to them

The boss has just stepped down (jumped or pushed? I don't know). Excellent ! for now I remain a member.

We need them to preserve history. Even if its a history we don't like or aren't proud of.  Thats the point of history.

We cancelled ours last month, but more out of principle.  Whilst I (mostly) applaud what they do, I do think they should have offered a token extension to memberships, even just a token amount.

But the fact they didn't/wouldn't made me believe that they had become as corrupt as so many charitable/NfP organisations become, lining their own exec pockets.  Its rife, look at the likes of Oxfam, or Nominet.

The question to ask is, how much of my money is going to the cause it should be? I know that sounds counter intuitive, but trust me it's not.

By law 10% is the minimum that must be used for good. The other up to 90% can be lost in admin costs.

Then the collection teams are more like multi level marketing scheme, (used to be known as pyramid schemes) so a lot gets lost in commission and wages before head office even sees a penny.

It's sad that this is what we have come to. Charity is supposed to help, but from what I can see, it's a con.

Before anyone says it, yes, I'm a fully paid up member of club cynical.

The salaries of some of the chief exec's of well known charities is eyewatering. There is a website somewhere that lists them. Think that BHF and Cancer Research are among the highest. Sally Army guy is a pauper in comparison.

Can't cancel my membership, because you know...life member here. 
I didn't pay though. My parents bought me and my wife membership for thier 40th wedding anniversary.  At the time, I was a bit pissed off. I was skint, and the money woukd have been more use.
I can't say I've had my money's worth.
