Alright guys, different views are held, and as a result tensions are running a little bit high here.
We are all aware the admins are most possibly all in Newent, so please let's put this into perspective, and take some responsibility for keeping this as a constructive debate, rather than a flame thrower

The way I see it is this.
So far, we only have what we have read in the media, and on the internet, to go on. While this may be used to form an opinion, I am sure the majority will agree that such sources are not always 100.1% reliable. The media are known for throwing things out of proportion, and I never forget this when forming an opinion.
If the facts reported are indeed correct, and this injured soldier who was otherwise perfectly amicable was refused entry because of his profession, then, on it's merits - I think it's unfair he was turned away. Not necessarily the truth, but my opinion nevertheless. On the other end of the scale, if the hotel had previously encountered problems with soldiers, then I feel we must also respect why they may have been over cautious.
While the hotel may well have acted unreasonably, I'm not entirely sure about the soldiers claims he could not find any other hotel in the centre of Woking. He was travelling by car in a large city, therefore easily in reach of a large number of hotels, even if this means a 25 minute journey to a motorway travel lodge.
At the end of the day, this could well have been (as the hotel reported) a mistake by a member of staff - or maybe a "bad apple" working at the hotel. But ultimately, apart from pride being hurt, no real harm was done. So as long as lessons are learnt (I doubt the hotel will turn away another soldier anytime soon!) Then it's probably quite pointless to keep flaming the establishment indefinately.
While trying to remain impartial to the debate without knowing full facts from a trusted source...
I must remark on your point, Stuart30, about signing up for "Queen and Country" being an alternative to going on the Dole, and being a "Carrier" for pissheads, etc.
While not for the armed forces, In November this year, I am swearing an oath for Queen and Country in a court of law, in order to perform a new commitment which strictly speaking will make me no longer a civillian. You can't really call this a "carrier" for me, on the basis that I am going to be doing what I do alongside my full time job, on an entirely voluntary (unpaid) basis, with the end result being more support and protection for members of the public such as yourself. So Please, don't tar everyone, or even the majority, with that brush
