hi ive had a leak on right bank passenger side of engine somewher by camcover/oil filler.had service fri mechanic whoses a mate said he thinks its the camcover or oil filler cap/neck poss.had the other camcover done by serek last year with a new cover no leak at all.i guess new camcover right side and filler neck and cap???what you think gents?doesnt drip on roads and use fair bit of oil but no drip to floor thanx

Usually with our Omega's, it is the cam cover gaskets that have failed and require replacement......................along with a good clean of the breather system that has caused the problem with the gaskets

You must realise then that if the breathers are blocked / reduced then even a cam cover fitted last year can leak from the gaskets.

One other point is that Serek knows what he is doing, but maybe, just maybe, the gasket at the rear where there is an indentation has not been fitted quite correctly and is leaking.

That was a little abrupt.

Lizzie was offering her answer that is pretty much usually the reason the cam covers leak.
To quote a line from only fools and horses.  "Why ask"

First up, if it was done a year ago, then it was correctly fitted. Fitted wrongly, then it starts pouring oil out the minute you start it

I am confused.

Which cover was replaced last year and which was replaced last week.

The oil cap is fitted on the LEFT cylinder head. At least it was when it was built.

As an aside, because the inlet manifold has to be removed to change the camcover/gasket, it makes financial sense to get them both changed even if only one is leaking.

From the ops description I'd say he was calling it the right bank[and he does say passenger side]as he's viewing it from the front of the car.I'd have thought someone of Sereks reputation would have replaced both cam cover gaskets at the same time,obviously I don't know this for sure and it could depend on what the op wanted/was paying for.If I remember correctly there is an "O" ring between the base of the oil filler neck and the cam cover which could leak simplest way to prove/disprove this would be to remove filler neck and simply fit oil filler cap directly onto the cam cover.

Doing both at once can get expensive... The covers need changing if warped and they used to be over £200 a side. 

That's the only reason to do just one, although it's a false economy

Agree with what you're saying DG,it's one of the reasons that although mine is a 3L it has the cam covers from a 3.2 fitted that I bought as they were known straight from a member on here.

'98 on cam covers are all the same, but all v6 camcovers will bolt straight onto the heads.

Only difference on the later ones is some extra holes to allow for the coil pack bolts

Square holes where the coil packs of the 3.2 sit on the plugs,which means with the plug leads of the 3.0 going in there instead means you can see at a glance whether the plug wells are filling with oil or water

You could split a cover straight down the middle and fit them individually... You'd still need to pull the inlet to change the inner ones though...
