Inlet valve - not Omega, but dishwasher!

My Hotpoint dishwasher has started filling itself whilst not in use. I reckon this is down to a faulty inlet valve solenoid (cold water).

The OEM valve costs £42.75

See: http://www.4hotpoint.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=595016&query=Hotpoint%20DF62N&model=DF62N&path=52511

I then found a site which sells universal inlet valves for £9.51:

See: http://www.apart4u.co.uk/acatalog/info_uni2312.html

Is it worth a punt to get the latter item and see if I can get it to work, thereby saving myself a tenner?  ;)

I do a bit with solenoid valves in water systems at work. They virtually never fail outright. They get a build up of limescale which stops them sealing or actuating.

For the price of some kitchen descaler, I would have a go at the 'wet' bits of the old one first.

Hey, thanks for that, Bandit! I've got some descaler, so I'll give it a go.  :y
