Hello all & wanted please
« on: 19 November 2021, 12:16:17 »

Hello all & thanks to those who have given us such useful guides which I have used from time to time.

I am in need of a complete working driver's door lock mechanism for a 52 plate car. Its not the solenoid that is the problem as all 4 buttons pop by using key or fob. The driver's door has gone into deadlock mode & refuses to open! I have to get this open to pass the MoT. I've managed to get some access to inside of the door by removing some of the door card fixing screws & moving it away from door as much as possible. It appears that there may have been some problems with this door previously as the plastic membrane looks to be completely missing. I bought this car last November just after its last MoT, first thing I had to do on it was change cam belt & water pump as seller didn't know when belt was last changed.

You need to get the door open in order to replace the latch.

It’s not in deadlock mode, but rather the mechanism has failed and/or seized.

Try German/US Ebay for the right hand ones... They are hens teeth rare here.

Yes have been trying to get one from sellers in Europe however even paying ridiculous shipping fees for a small part earliest they can deliver is late December!
Have search going through a partfinder site with quotes coming in from £135 - £175 + delivery & vat!
Without transport, MoT already expired, I can't scout around scrappies myself to find one, have been told a Corsa or Saab of same age may use same part.

A little imagination will get the door open. ;)

Once that's done, a thorough clean and lubrication of the mechanism might get it working again. Briefly.

I have looked at the mechanism in the driver's door of another omega of same age to see how it works & can see nothing different or out of position stopping it from opening. It was working fine then came back to car in a car park & it wouldn't open, hasn't since despite trying several ways to get to the catch on the pillar which isn't releasing. Have applied various lubricants hoping it would free up whatever needs to.

Remove the front left mechanism from the door. Study it thoroughly. Then apply what you learn to the drivers door to get it open. Then remove it and reassess it.  ;)

And the door is still closed? I politely suggest having a closer look at and see how it actually works. Once you understand what needs to happen, it takes seconds to get the door open, even from the outside.

I have been staring at & examining how it works almost daily for past few weeks, applying lubricants, pulling inside & outside handles, nothing has moved this door towards reopening! Thanks for your suggestions, as I said previously have read other threads on similar problems.

That's to say, the door can be opened blind from the outside. There's one thing you need to hit, and it's clearly visible with the mechanism in your hand.

There isn't any plastic cover on the mechanism fitted to my door, suspect that was removed by previous owner who may have also had this happen but somehow managed to get it open

Short of me driving over and doing it for you...

The plastic cover on the lock mechanism? Not the plastic membrane on the door.

There isn't one, he just said. So someone else has removed the plastic cover'.

In the first post... The passenger door should have still had the plastic case attached.

The idea being that you take the passenger mechanism off, understand EXACTLY how it works and apply that to to one stuck in the drivers door. But apparently that overcomplicates it...
