Covid tests for travel
« on: 16 December 2021, 15:40:38 »

It's going to cost me around £320 for these fickin things. My lad is travelling to Romania on 27th December, so..... £70 each for him and his girlfriend for day 2 tests when they get back, £20 each for lateral flow tests to take with them and £70 each for PCR test within 48 hours of travelling.
I thought I'd got away with it all, telling him that it would be impossible to get a test within 48 hours of travelling, because those 48 hours were Christmas Day and Boxing Day. But no, they have booked their tests in Leeds at 10:30 on Boxing Day.  :( I'll have to drive them there, wait and bring them home too. Double  :( :(
I'm going to be relying on boots the chemist to deliver the first two tests by next Friday, can't order before tomorrow when they come home because boots want a photo, picture of passport and colour of underwear on the booking. Treble  :( :( :(

But not to worry, her dad paid for the flights. £37.50 each, return on Wizzair from Doncaster. And they will be feeding him some cabbage or the like while he's visiting, I don't think the vegan food choice is quite so extensive over there.

Oh yes, travelling abroad now is, once again, not an easy, relatively cheap, thing to do.

Thank goodness I am not going to travel anywhere, but just dream on sitting on that beautiful, hot, beach somewhere!! ;D ;)

PITA. I dread having to go ver to ( your Covid ridden) UK if my elderly Dad falls ill again. Had enough grief last time round.

Wont-be long before you are all equipped with your Covid freedom pass in order to get fuel or food.

It's just hoops.

Considering a one night trip back to GC in Feb. Return flights are £40 if you choose carefully. Drive through (results in 15 minutes) predeparture test could be done on the way to the airport and the Day 2 test on the way home.

The Predeparture test should also cover the return flight from GC.

Similarly, the passenger locator form can be filled in on the bus from the carpark.

Paying the slight extra to get the testing as convenient as possible is money we'll spent IMHO.

If other European countries did as much testing as we do I imagine that their case rates would be similar.  :)

We do twice as much testing as France, three times the amount Italy does and over five times the amount of tests Germany does!  :o

France and Germany recently had a surge in cases (pre omicon) and their daily cases were higher than the UK's despite doing less testing....  ;)

Or...to have many more cases than us but to hide them using the Donald Trump method.

For instance; They have half as many new cases as us today, but more than twice as many deaths. You can hide one but not the other. People tend to notice when they've died.

Spains figures are a joke. They don't even report at the weekend, and there's no way the Monday figures include the weekend.

France waits until late in the day to report their stats, probably in the hope that no one will notice!  ;D

Isn't it now just the same as it used be when we were EU members. We(as a country) used abide by the "rules" far more than those countries on the mainland did. >:(

Steve those prices are really high. I’ve travelled a lot lately and have been getting them much cheaper. If you’d like me to PM details, I will

I got a box 7 of LFT's from my local pharmacy for free last week.  :y

That was before the omicon hysteria though....  :-\
