Sweet as the Beastie is the top end could be a "little quieter" so she's having the whole lot replaced with new whether she needs it or not!
Meantime i love 'Tinas but Mk3's are silly money so i'm picking this up on Saturday. Needless to say machine polish full valet etc. What's the best oil for these now, GTX, Duckhams?

I'd try adjusting the 'tappets' (0.010" + 0.008"???) first before I replaced everthing. The Pinto is a piece of cake to work on.
I think there's still 1600 Pinto head in my Dad's garage.  ;D

Nice choice. I never did get to find out what the difference was between  mk4 and mk5.
Friend of mine had a mk3 2 litre GXL white with a black vinyl roof.
It was M reg 1973.quick car for it's day. :y :y

OH DEAR!!!! I love the Wolfies, maybe better suited to a Mk1 Eccy & the originals looked good with the chrome inserts, ( i'm 45 yrs young so remember my old Fords) but i think they're cheesey retro :D!!
Anyway, fingers crossed she's as good as she looks. Any recommendations for classic ins. quotes? Need to get her covered this week to drive home Saturday...Machine polish & valet Sunday. Will post a couple of piccies when done. :y

Mk5 was no more than a Mk4 facelift really. Bigger bumpers/lights, few interior changes but you can't swap front wings due to indicator lens shape. :y

Oh yes,cam shaft on these use to rattle due to oil ways blocking up on the feed..
Press cars had roller followers that couldnt dig in to the case hardened cam shaft, you might be able to still get them
We also use to put a couple of pints of diesel fuel into the oil and let the engine idle for about 30 mins before an oil change, this kept the oil ways clear of the gunk that blocks up the camshaft oil pipe.
I got over 120.000 miles out of a 2 litre capri with a pinto engine
then the body rotted off it

A work friend of mine has two of these one white and the other green and i think he will be selling the white one next year when the green one is ready to come out on the road. The white one is just so nice to look at and drive plus when he's out in the car it does get a lot of looks , so if any one wants a nice MK3 then i would say this MK3 is one of the best out there :)

Take the oil spray bar off, get an old fashioned squirty oil can, fill it with petrol & get squirting...flushes any muck out. When all holes clear, refit...done!!!!!!!!!!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
