Afghanistan
« on: 29 January 2022, 11:30:27 »

I watched a news report on sky news last night called 'Hotspots-retreat from Afghanistan' with Alex Crawford. That place really is hell on earth. It's on again tonight at nine o'clock, if you get a chance. Worth a watch if somewhat depressing.

Quite an unstable country, but made much worse by Biden.

There is said to be 9 million starving people including many infants. Some are selling a  child or two in order to feed the rest. :-X

Some men selling a kidney to provide food for their families.

Lets go Brandon.

The answer must be within the Afghan people themselves. The West, and East, have done their damage over centuries, with military campaigns going back to Alexander the Great.  From what I have read, heard, and watched over the last few decades, no outsider has helped Afghanistan.  In fact always the opposite.

But now the foreigners have been ousted by the Taliban, a bunch of ignorant farmers with big weapons, who have no idea how to run the country or use diplomacy in a way to obtain international aid, which is what is now required.

I have donated my £20 (big deal!!) to help feed the Afghan children, but the ‘leaders’ , and I do not mean the Taliban necessarily, of that country must step forward and re-build by getting all the people to go in one direction, with Women especially being treated with the respect, and given political powers, to help move towards a peaceful, educated, well organised society with everyone employed and well fed, and the weapons (and their owners) consigned to the scrap heap.

It must be left in the hands of the Afghan people, as it was for us in the distant past, to rise up and claim their democracy, but that could / will take time. ;)

No, but it has been done by the French and English when rising up against the political and social injustices of the time to achieve a better society.

The Afghan people, and their children, are starving already, which makes it even more likely they will summon whatever strength they have left and fight for an alternative life. What have they got to lose when death is already staring them in the face? :'(

Unfortunately scenes like those shown in Afghanistan are nothing new have seen similar before & up close , there is no answer because it's all some cultures know, to try and bring some peace of mind  to me I simply try & do the best I can for those close to me & hope that they never have to endure the cruelty of mankind.
The fact that some of our veterans are living rough in the UK is personally more important to me.

Indeed
you can throw as much money as you like at trying to help such countries
It just gets taken by corrupt officials, etc and very little filters down to the poor people it was intended for  :(

This was the fourth time the British army has left Afghanistan after a protracted campaign. So it should come as no surprise that we left, albeit following the the US lead, as it was always going to happen. Same applies to the consequences; the Taliban, which is just a modern name for the native society, took less than a week to end up back where they were before the Western occupation, which is what they did when called the Mujahedeen fighting the Russian occupation and so on back in history.

Forcing our political and cultural structure on such places, including Africa/Arabia/Asia etc, is always going to end like this and we should have stopped trying over a century ago.

They already are. They effectively hold the mineral rights to all Taliban lands. Not that you will have seen that on the 6 o'clock news.

The Chinese for sure are already there lending the Taliban money in return for access to Afghanistan's natural resources like the reported huge deposits of Lithium.

The Taliban will enrich themselves and spend the rest on weapons, while the bleeding hearts of the west will pour in aid money to feed the people.  ::)

China can supply its own opium...

Or we could just buy whatever the Afghan government is prepared to sell instead of invading again.
