Blimey! If that lot are "soaring" in value, people must be getting desperate. ;D

All caused by a shortage of semiconductors. It just so happens that my employer is a manufacturer of semi conductors.
Therefore, its their fault, so they owe me a car.
I shall tell them so when Im back in work tomorrow.  ;D
There is an 18 plate Dacia Duster with 30k on the clock sat in the car park doing nothing.
Could be tempted to claim it, but it has the same engine as Pierre, so not much point.  ::) ;D

If I were going to spend that money on another car I may well be tempted to in the opposite direction and get another old Merc 190D.
It would have to be more presentable and less rusty than my last one, but I could run it on new vegoil from Asda at less than £1 a litre, which would equate to similar running costs to the French contraption now, without having to rebuild it every other week.

It can be had for under a quid  if you shop around. But even 1.15 would be a lot cheaper than diesel.  :)
I could go back to filtering wvo I suppose. Its a pita but usually free.

I used to run my old Merc C250TD on veggie oil from Costco in 20 ltr bottles which was easy to store, pour in the tank and also easy to dispose of the empty bottle in the recycling.  :y

Once I went to ASDA and filled my trolley with 3 ltr bottles which got some funny looks at the checkout!  ;D  But the smaller bottles were a faff to fill the tank with and they were a PITA to dispose of afterwards as I had too many for the recycling box.  ::)

Cost wise I don't think there was much difference, but the bigger bottles from Costco were definitely easier.  :y

I would be more worried about the exterior colour, but at least '70s tan will wear better than the current dross...

MoT exempt too, which will save on maintenance costs  :D

You could always borrow it for a weekend and swap over a couple of bits - like the engine  ;D

Not overly keen on left hand drive, but the biggest concern with those old Mercs is rust. They are often riddled with it.
May have a free 1.2 Punto available soon, which might do for a commute car, although I imagine low 40,s mpg ? rather than nearly 60 from Pierre.
Would do the job for a while at least though. Then maybe have one more summer of fun with the Boxster, fix a few issues on it and then get rid of all three cars and have just one tedious little reliable Toyota.

You must be joking? A 70s diesel Merc imported from the middle east as a daily driver :o Their reputation for being bullet proof was an illusion when they were new enough to warrant the open wallet maintenance they require; 40 years later it's an expensive liability.

Keeping the clit on the road would prove cheaper and less frustrating.

And that's without the horrendous driving experience of an old Merc. If you must have such a thing, driving one back from Greece would be the way to get it.

I was so appalled by the interior colour that i totally missed that it was a left hooker.  ;D
