The one problem I have with the Ukranian side of the conflict is the fact that they are on the one hand being incredibly tough / brave / patriotic in order to protect the sovereignty democracy and right of self determination of their country, and at the same time desperately trying to join the EU.
Doesnt make any sense at all imo.

They want to get their fingers in the EU pie stuffed with German, British, Dutch, Austrian, Danish, Finnish and Swedish taxpayers money!  :)

Can't blame them really, Poland has trousered something like 195 billion Euros since joining.  ;)

In which case someone should have told Vladolf he didnt need to go to all this trouble. The country, complete with its heart, soul and sovereignty,  is actually for sale anyway.

Yes, although there are preferred bidders and Vladolf wasn't in the running.  Hence...  ::)

Apparently over 100,000 people have signed up to the government scheme to house Ukrainian refugees in their homes.  :y

Good for them, but being slightly cynical I wonder how many have really thought it through properly.  :-\

Meanwhile this from Twitter made me chuckle this morning.

I spoke about this to friends recently, people are having to leave in droves fearing for their lives so all thoughts about Covid would be the last thing on their minds a recipe for further disasters.

Of those 100,000 people 30 might end up in hospital with covid. Most of them will probably be bombed out of their homes. Not really comparable.

If there is a peace settlement, it is to be hoped that Russia is made to pay restitution to rebuild Ukraine.

I think that is way beyond unlikely. Especially as Russia is now in economic trouble.

There are billions of dollars worth of Russia's gold and foreign currency reserves currently frozen in banks around the world.

I'm sure a mechanism will be found to divert some of that to Keev to help pay for reconstruction.  ;)

Obviously bypassing the completely useless UN and vetoes from Russia, China, India, Pakistan et al...  ::)
