Mind How You Go Folks!
« on: 01 April 2022, 23:54:00 »

The driver of this Defender got 5 points on his licence and a £1200 fine when this cyclist toppled off her bike as he drove by.  :o

I guess he could have slowed down a bit to pass them but £1200 and 5 points? C'mon!  >:(

Mabe he could have been a little slower but she fell off because the lead cyclist needlesy stopped & she couldn't get her feet down fast enough because she was clipped in.

OK, even accepting the new stupid rules, somebody has to get out of the way, as the traffic was in both directions.

So, at best, its only 50% blame. So what punishment did the idiots on the bikes get?  opps all I suspect.

I’d say the Land Rover was going too fast and it was a bit dangerous but the fine and points were too much.

Well in that situation, I would have stopped my car and let the cyclists go past. Ditto if it was horses. The driver was going too fast. What would the car driver have done if a cyclist had fallen the other way into his path?  You can quickly accelerate after stopping and make up any lost time.

Having said all that the cyclists need lessons in how to proceed on an open road.

That was sped up for effect... No way a LR90 can move that fast ;D

But a lesson there in stopping distances and paying attention as much as anything. And not just for the driver.  :-X

A typical case of "All the gear and no idea" bike rider
learn to balance ,stop corner and ride before going onto roads  ::)
"When I was a lad" we had to pass a cycling proficiency test before being allowed to take a bike to school
I would have slowed right down or stopped in a car in that scenario though .
we need to give cyclists 2 meters because some don't know how to ride a bike  ::)

still lots of car drivers who don't know the new rules ,or don't care though  :-X
I'd have been run over several times whilst in "pedestrian mode" since the new rules came in, IF i'd trusted cars to stop  :P

This incident happened in either November or December 2020 (depending how you read the date on the vid), so before the new Highway Code rules came in.  ;)

Maybe the cyclists were breaking covid rules at that time.  :D

No, but I'm nowhere near a road, so don't have to share my space with motorised vehicles  :P

The real issue is that that driver could be anyone as we've all had a laspe at some point.

Five points is standard fare for Careless Driving, the fine is means tested, so not so relevant, but his counsel was obviously having an off day as you could argue that the lead cyclist caused the accident by stopping so abruptly, ie uncontrolled manner, and the one that fell off was obviously to close to stop safely. Had it been in cars instead of on bikes, there would have been no charges and at best three 50/50 or knock for knock insurance claims.
