We used to clean the ATA aircraft when they came into Gatwick two or three times a week. I believe they eventually phased out the with 757/767s before the airline ceased. Never flew on one, but the cabins were genuinely spacious, even when configured as all economy.
As a side note, if the corporate cabin was anything like their current 737BBJ flight, then the Saudi Tristar must have been a rather nice place to be a passenger...
Certainly a much better aircraft than the god awful DC10/MD11 that was its nemesis. Between Caledonian/Peach Air/Air Atlanta Delta and Air Transat, it was a familiar sight at Gatwick right to the end of the 20th century
Air Atlanta and Air Transat being daily staples of our work.
Shame that the main spars weren't cost effective to replace, especially in the aftermath of 9/11. High volume charter carriers like Air Atlanta quickly moved onto 747-300 and ultimately 747-400s but they wouldn't have existed without the venerable Tristar.
